Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Porter.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my career in mortgage banking 30 years ago in Kansas City and have been fortunate to work in many areas of the industry. A relocation to Dallas in 1996 provided the opportunity to run a group of business lines for First Horizon Home Loans which ultimately was sold to MetLife.
In 2015, I decided to use my experience to open my own mortgage company, Red Diamond Home Loans. My business partner in Red Diamond Home Loans, Mike Rogers, has worked with me since our days in Kansas City, and adds his extensive knowledge of the field to our Company as well.
Red Diamond is an independently owned mortgage banking company that closes and funds its own loans. My vision in opening this mortgage company is to offer our clients a variety of loan products with competitive pricing in an accessible environment to make the home loan process as simple and stress free as possible for them.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with opening any business, we are continually learning from our experiences. We are most interested in developing long term relationships and establishing Red Diamond as a knowledgeable, trusted resource for any home loan needs. Relationships take time, and we are always grateful to be given the opportunity to begin a relationship with a client.
Red Diamond Home Loans – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Red Diamond is, to our knowledge, the only independently held mortgage banking company in Southlake. We are not a mortgage broker, but rather a mortgage banking company that closes and funds its own loans. We are able to have investor relationships that enable us to offer our clients a variety of loan products to fit their specific needs and situations at the most competitive rates. Additionally, our Southlake office is home to the Red Diamond team who are not only focused on personalized customer service, but always locally accessible to our clients.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Personally, I define success as spending your time and resources in a manner that is not only beneficial to your own wellbeing, but also valuable in some way to others. It is a goal that our Company is able to not only be profitable, but also beneficial to our clients, community and employees.
