Meet Mike Turiace of Milo’s Bar in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Turiace.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was 21 years old and I was out having a beer with a friend and I brought up the idea of opening a bar in our small college town of Durant Ok. He agreed and 6 months later we were in business. A year or so later I moved to Dallas and have been in the same business ever since. I am very fortunate to have met some terrific people along the way. Valuable mentors, lifelong friends and a wonderful wife that has blessed me with 2 beautiful children.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a crazy ride filled with some incredible memories. Not all have been great though. There have been some tough times and some failures along the way for sure. I’m a firm believer that failure is a part of life. What you do with that adversity defines a big part of who you are. It also serves as a point of reference. You can’t truly appreciate the good in life unless you have been on the wrong end of some ass kickings.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Milo’s Bar story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m fortunate to have a business partner that cares about running a business the right way as much as I do. Running a values based business is a critical component of what we do. We make sure we treat people the way we would hope to be treated. We consider ourselves to be in the people business first and foremost. We really try to set ourselves apart from all of the other similar businesses out there by excelling at the customer service we give. It is definitely ingrained in the fabric of what our bar is about.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology is the key. From marketing to media to inventory. It is an ever changing platform that is tough to keep in front of. It is critical to stay current with all the trends. We do our best to keep an eye on what is coming around the corner so to speak.
