Meet Mila Goldman Moore of CONTEXTvintage in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mila Goldman Moore.

Mila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
CONTEXTvintage started pretty organically. From the mid-90’s through 2006, I was an architect in NYC. My husband and I had discussed moving back “home” to Dallas, and finally did after a decade of living and working in one of the most incredible cities in the world.

We bought and restored a Midcentury Modern home, and started furnishing it with special pieces of vintage furniture and modern art. You might say, I “over-bought” in my “nesting” excitement and ended up with excess vintage “inventory”, which I would end up offering for sale on Facebook. The year was 2008 and the timing happened to perfectly coincide with the rise and popularity of online shopping! There were definitely some visionaries, and one of them was a company called One Kings Lane (OKL). They were leading the online vintage retailer experience, and invited me to become a vendor. I enthusiastically accepted and worked with them until 2014, when another online marketplace called Chairish, was starting to create a buzz, so I made a move and currently, happily, offer my entire inventory of vintage finds through Chairish.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road? Hmmmm…well, it’s all relative, isn’t it? Business ownership is a fulfilling venture, filled with overcoming daily challenges. The fact that CONTEXTvintage has allowed me to be flexible for my family is the greatest gift of all and I’m thrilled to tackle any obstacle that comes my way. I’m a creative problem solver and there are hundreds of stories that I could share about difficulties that arose, but there isn’t a business owner who couldn’t. We are facing one of our biggest challenges right now, in the form of the coronavirus and its likely impact on our communities and economy. We absolutely have to come together and support each other in every way possible right now. I think of myself as someone with “grit” and integrity, and I see those qualities in people around me too, so I am optimistic that we will persevere.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CONTEXTvintage – what should we know?
CONTEXTvintage is a virtual vintage store. It stocks well-crafted, unique vintage furniture, art, and home accessories that I hope bring joy to my clients across the country. I curate CONTEXTvintage as though I’m shopping for myself and have fun every day doing exactly that. I love a good mix and am drawn equally to quirky pieces as well as luxurious heirlooms. I called the shop “CONTEXTvintage” because filling our homes with things that resonate creates special spaces. Things speak to each other, creating a vitality, dialogue and a context as unique as the individual who lives amongst them.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Huge kudos to anyone who supports small businesses! I always try to shop small, local, fair-trade and sustainably, and anyone who shops with me is doing exactly that. There is no magic lost on me and I appreciate each and every person who is the proud owner of something from CONTEXTvintage. As a matter of fact, if you head over to my Instagram account, you’ll see my #fullheartfriday posts. Every Friday, I post a few pieces that sold in the prior week and say “thank you” in 16 languages as a small gesture of my gratitude.
