Meet Mirka Rodriguez of Dallas, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mirka Rodriguez.

Hi Mirka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started off 5 Years ago After my Dad passed away. Loosing My Dad Was the absolute hardest and most painful thing I had ever experienced. I was only 6 months away from walking down the aisle so everything changed in a blink of an eye for me. I worked at a Chiropractor At the time and the pain was so strong I felt like I needed something else to keep me busy. My husband had opened his own Power-washing Business and seeing how motivated he was Made me realize I also wanted something of my own. On his birthday I surprised him with chocolate covered strawberries made by me and From that point “The Sweet Life with M.V was born. I focused on making Edible Arrangements for special occasions, Took me about 3 years to take the leap to focusing on Party packages of my desserts and Moving on to The present time I have been more focused on Dessert Bars.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first started five years ago, there weren’t many of us doing desserts compared to how it is now. Over time, it definitely became more competitive, especially with pricing. In the beginning, I offered my treats at lower prices, but throughout the years I’ve invested a lot into my business—both as a treat maker and in building my dessert bars. With the economy rising, there have been moments where I’ve had to adjust my prices, even when it didn’t reflect the years of experience I’ve gained. It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every challenge has pushed me to grow, improve, and stay committed to my small business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for My Dessert Bars. I am known as “The Elote Lady”, “The Pancake lady”, “The Dessert Lady” Etc. I Have moved on to advertising them more than my Desserts because being able to be a part of my client’s event, whether it’s a birthday, wedding, Quinceañera I absolutely love being present. I consider myself a People person considering I was a bartender and server for 6 years. I am the CEO, my own employee, Social Media Manager but most importantly above all I am a Full-Time mommy of 2. I love what I do And seeing how much My business has grown and Hope to one day Leave this For my Daughter To run someday.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
What makes me Different from others is I don’t gatekeep anything I do for my business, I have given my recipes, Given advice on how to advertise, market there own business. I have Motivated others to start Because I am a strong believer that The sun shines for everyone. What I do is not Something I invented or “new”, and When I started I didn’t have that, I didn’t have anybody Guide me or give me pricing advice so being able to help others Makes me happy.
My advice for anybody reading this and wanting to start is DO IT. I am the type of person that overthinks and if someone tells me “no, not a good business idea” I don’t do it Because that one person said so, not that long ago I purchased a chocolate fountain and a Waffle machine In silence Because I finally believed in myself, in less than 2 weeks I was able to use both machines for 3 different events. You never know what you can accomplish for just believing in yourself. Don’t let the “what if my business doesn’t work out” fear let it haunt you.
