Thanks for sharing your story with us Missy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband and I own a dog rescue. We have always been in rescue/advocacy/volunteering/training in some capacity. After an unhappy several years in a corporate experience, I asked my husband if he was ok with us trying something different, but the same, and getting into pets full time. He was not only on-board, he was excited and started thinking of business names that night! It only took us about 15 minutes to come up with our name and the names of our walk packages so we knew this was something we were just supposed to do.
Our complete passion and love for animals was the best reason to do this now and never look back. We knew being completely happy in work would keep our customers and pets happy. The Pet Divas was born!
Nearly 3 years later, we are booming! We offer all pet sitting and daily walking/training services.
We are also a pet concierge to all Dallas hotel guests’ pets.
We offer some of the most affordable and experienced pet services in town.
We started with one customer and now retain hundreds of regular customers per week.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has honestly been pretty smooth.
With special thanks to the rescue community in Dallas, who offered many referrals to the Hotel Association of North Texas and the Dallas Hotel Concierge Association’s concierge, who calls on our sitters when the need arises.
Is it hard work? Absolutely. Do we work weekends, holidays, last minute emergencies, and on call constantly? Yes. Is it worth it? Completely!
We keep up with latest trends, new communities going up, Dallas area meetings to attend and associations we need to know of. It has ultimately been the best working experience of my life.
The Pet Divas – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Pet Divas is a full-service pet sitting/dog walking service.
We do basic obedience and socialization programs as well.
We specialize in being able to not only exercise your dog when long work hours are imminent, but to socialize as well.
We work on leash training immediately upon starting each new dog.
We are the only hotel guests’ pet concierge service. We stay in hotel, take for patio or park time, grooming or vet appointments and are an on-call service for all downtown Dallas hotel.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is not defined by money but by the trust your customers have in you.
With each personal referral, I know I am doing my job.
When my customers tell me they know, without a shadow of a doubt, that their beloved pet is in great hands with me, that is my idea of a successful business plan that cranks and churns because of true love and passion for what I do.
In other areas, I like my employees to be on time and love pets as much as we do.
It’s all about passion. If you are just “doing a job” dealing with other people’s pets, you will get burned out. This is not really a job. This is the good life.
