Today we’d like to introduce you to Miyleen Breaux.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Denver, CO. A woman of God and mother to four beautiful children. After having four babies, I was not confident about my body. One of the main reasons why I decided to began my modeling journey was to gain that confidence, even though I got asked frequently if I was a model or would model for someone and their brand. The more I did photo shoots, the more those insecurities fell off. I also began this journey in hopes to inspire other girls, ladies, and women to embrace the skin we are in especially mothers,
I have always been pretty natural and had long hair. In 2014, I started my loc journey and in 2016, I cut them, leaving me with a mini fro. I was not at all confident in wearing my hair in public because I felt I had a big head and “being natural” with fro wasn’t really common. But I decided to wear my hair more and more and I received the good and bad remarks. All the bad remarks did was make me grab my pick and pick my fro even bigger (lol). Now, I am known for my Afrocentric Afro, it is my brand and my statement. Again, I love to wear and embrace my crown so others will confident in embracing and wearing theirs.
I am a single mom and college student obtaining my Associates Degree while being a part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. My journey does not end here, I know that God has big things in store for me, God made us all stewards of His Creation and we should take great care of it. That includes everything about you and around you. Whether it be your finances, family, and your future! Be responsible with what God graced us with and manage it well. God blesses us to be a blessing to others. Remember to be resourceful with what God gave you.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey as a model has not been a smooth road because I have a few odds stacked against me. One is my height and size, I am only 5’3 and weigh about 135 lbs. But I have not let that stop me. Another reason why it has not been smooth is that once you get into this industry, you realize there are a lot of people who will try to walk over and use you if you do not know better. Just like the game of life, being a single mom has not made this journey easy either because my schedule is so tight but I’ve been making it work.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I am a natural hair model known for my Afrocentric Afro, I am proud of my crown, it stands out in all my photos and even when I wear it in public. As a model, I try to go above and beyond, I love being creative and bringing the photographers vision to life. I feel that is something that sets me apart because I will do things that a typical model probably wouldn’t, such as taking the risk, as long as I am comfortable.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am proud that I am learning to love myself through the process and the encouragement I get when I share my photos. Even when I am out in public, there are so many times that people tell me I encouraged them to embrace their crown and that is what I want to do.
