Today we’d like to introduce you to Miyoko Tan.
Hi Miyoko, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into photography about three years ago. I had an older sister I helped take photos for, which I think jumpstarted photography for me. I was gifted my first camera by someone who has now passed away. His name was Justin, he introduced me to cars and photography. Every month we’d wake up early in the morning in order to go to a car over time to watch the cars roll into the parking lot. I was only there for the photography but over time I also found entertainment in the cars. Soon it went from cars to nature to just everything I thought was interesting. I did my own thing after a while. Taking photos whenever I saw something that caught my eye. I’m still currently a photographer and hoping to own my own brand with photography. I run a social media account with my photography and another that is a collab group with other photographers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, unfortunately; the three years of photography weren’t easy. I got discouraged pretty easily. I only recently this year started to talk to other photographers and I found out very quickly, that I didn’t fit with a lot of them. It was hard for two-three months, but I found those I fit with and I was ok over time. I also recently lost someone to covid-19. The person I lost was the person who encouraged me to do photography. I took that loss hard but I continued to keep doing photography, for not just him, but for myself. I continue to grow even though it’s hard to.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I specialize in photography for supercars. However, I do also do wildlife and portraits. I’m most proud of how much I have improved with photography and editing. I think the thing that separates me from others is that I have access to supercars that others don’t get to get access to. I have networked with a lot of people. I’ve never taken a photography class and I’m just doing what I think looks good to me personally,
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I play golf and have been for the past 14 years. I am also an artist and I created my own logo and watermarks. I’m also self-taught.
