Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Kidd.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When I was a young child, we listened to lots of Barbara Streisand in the car. In 1985, Barbara Streisand came out with “The Broadway Album.” When I first heard her sing the song “Putting It Together,” it sent chills down my spine! I still listen to this song for inspiration as a jewelry designer. Twelve years ago while I was pregnant with my daughter, a friend showed me how to wire wrap. I was hooked! Designing jewelry and helping clients with their jewelry needs is my passion. I enjoy the thrill of putting jewelry components together and creating a look for my clients.
Please tell us about your art.
I design and manufacture jewelry. Handmade in Dallas, Texas, all of our jewelry features bits of glamour for casual elegance. Sterling silver, gold-filled, and bronze components are used with real gemstones to create unique jewelry pieces that can be worn from day into the evening for the modern day woman.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I think pricing is the toughest challenge facing artists today. As an artist, you want to create your work and get it out into the world, and you want everyone to love it as much as you do. I think artists can short change themselves financially by not charging enough for their time.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Most of my work is available online at www.mollykidd.com. I’m also currently in two Dallas stores: KidBiz in Inwood Village (for my tween collection) and Talulah & Hess in Lakewood.
