Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Russell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Molly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After my oldest was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism I realized that the financial impact of a special needs diagnosis was sometimes great than the emotional impact on a family. I am so fortunate to be in a financial position to provide our son with any and all care that he needs, and I began to quickly understand that the majority of special needs families are absolutely drowning, financially. After some thought I decided to start The Huckleberry Foundation to help these families.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not always. I have been amazed by the amount of support that we have been given, but the fundraising struggle is a constant, uphill battle.
The Huckleberry Foundation – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We provide financial aid to special needs families for therapies and devices that they otherwise cannot afford. This greatly improves the quality of life for their child as well as their family. We are most proud of the lives that we have improved and for helping to spread the word about the benefits of inclusion and kindness, as well as special needs awareness
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally don’t think very often about the word “success”. I feel that if you are living your life in a kind and responsible manner and doing what you can to help others and improve our society as a whole, than you are “successful”.
