Meet Molly Setnick of City Crew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Setnick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Molly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got my degree in Health & Fitness Education from Baylor and spent about 12 years working in the fitness industry, from administration to personal training and group exercise. In 2012 I co-opened a studio called Crowbar Cardio here in East Dallas, where we offered classes in Indoor Cycling, Indoor Rowing, and Barre. After 5 years, we closed our doors, and I was able to open City Crew just a couple of blocks away, focusing solely on Indoor Rowing. I live in Lakewood with my husband, two kids, and two dogs.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening City Crew has actually been pretty smooth. It was one of those situations where the timing just seemed right and all of the necessary pieces fell into place.

Please tell us about City Crew.
Over the past 5 years, I have become passionate about Indoor Rowing. It is an amazing full-body workout that is actually fun and is gentle on the joints. It truly is a sport that almost anyone can do, and can keep doing late into life. I want to share the power of rowing with anyone and everyone, and that’s where City Crew comes in. As Dallas’s only dedicated rowing studio, we keep the focus on correct form to ensure optimal results. Other studios use rowing machines as a cardio element in their workouts, but there is usually not much emphasis on form and how to row correctly, which often leads to injury, burnout, and poor performance. We want to teach people HOW to row, so they can perform at their best and get the most from their workouts.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s a hard question. It’s probably actually a kind of sad memory. My parents had gone to the hospital for the birth of my brother and my older sister was at school. I had to stay down the street at a neighbor’s house. I was so sure that my parents were going to pick my sister up from school, take the new baby, and split town without me, that I ran away from the neighbor’s house and hid behind the air conditioning compressor at our house. The police were called, and my poor parents were called at the hospital and told that I was missing. Clearly, they found me and everything turned out okay. But, I like this memory because, now, as a mom, I know how ridiculous it was to think my parents would ever leave me.
