Today we’d like to introduce you to Mon P.
Hi Mon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in south Dallas (Dixon). Most people dreams was to make it in sports or music. I started loving music at the age of 5 when I use to see my big brother freestyling with my cousin and they friends. I use to sit and watch them play the game and rap for hours. I felt like I could rap, but I was scared to rap in front of people, so I started writing raps. I made my first song in the studio when I was like 17 and fell in love with the feeling; at that moment, I knew I wanted to pursue rap. But with life came distractions, and I lost focus. About 2 years ago, I decided to stay focused and put my all into my music, and ever since I been growing more and more. Been doin shows, shooting videos, and dropping music consistently, and I don’t plan on stopping.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I took a lot of losses trying to stay consistent with music. Lost all my music 3 different times. Computer shut down twice, and once computer was stole. I had full mixtapes ready to drop and lost it all. I was ready to give up and felt it would never work. Also, having kids make it a lot harder to focus on putting money into your career, but I stayed at it wind made it through all roadblocks and obstacles, and made it happen.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make music. I rap, harmonize, and also write music. I feel I stand out because I have my own sound. I always knew I didn’t want to sound like anyone else. My motivation in the music world was Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, and Mo3 (LL3). Mss add only because they always had their own sound. My music mainly sticks to real-life situations and stories that I seen or went through in my life, gasped around my neighborhood. I’m most proud of just the reactions I get when I perform on stage because of my talent and authentic sound.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
A lot of this wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for my big brother, which is also my manager Duke. He believed in me and motivated me during the times I felt none of it made sense. He invested into me and mentored me in life and in the music world. Also, my family and friends who share my music and come out to shows and video shoots to support and motivate me. I’m thankful for them all.
