Meet Monique Byars of Evette’s Niche in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Byars.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I was a little girl, I was a curious creative. I lived in my own created worlds. I wanted to make them, touch them. This drove me to be a maker and performer.

In adolescence, I loved physics and oil painting, Math and ceramics, programming and sewing, obsessed with the connections between the traditionally opposite disciplines, I constantly strive to find ways to connect them.

Meanwhile, I have stubbornly ignored the popular, unsolicited advice of the countless semi-wise always given to those with many interests, “you must choose.” I am still young at 21, but I don’t yet regret my decision. I went to college for engineering and, in my free time, I started to engineer wearable pieces of art. The arts and sciences describe the world around us, I say they do not have to be so separate.

To capture my wearables, I took up photography and modeling. Now my creations lie somewhere between engineering, photography, and surreal sculpture. I would describe my work as giving odd objects a personality. All the while, I work my day job as a software engineer.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always struggled with my health. For many reasons, it has taken a lot away from me. I wish I had an inspiring story of persistence and prevailing in the end. However, it is constantly steps forward and steps backward. The best gift I have given myself is never standing still.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Evette’s Niche story. Tell us more about the business.
Abstractly, I create wearables and sets based on objects, animals, and concepts. Some of my previous works were based on delft pottery, hot air balloons, goldfish, sea creatures, etc.

Concretely, I am an influencer that can help other creators, models, and photographers produce unique and out of this world content. I have several years of professional photography and modeling experience, an extensive wardrobe with vintage and designer pieces from around the world, countless wearables I have made, and a full makeup kit.

I build unique sets and costumes that will provide ethereal, whimsical, bright images! For a photographer, I can be a model, stylist, and/or MUA. For a model, I can be a photographer, MUA, and stylist. In my home studio, I create entire worlds! I am always looking for creative and enthusiastic people to work with! Send me a message.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There is no such thing as luck — just coincidence. But I am thankful for those who have supported me. Having them is the closest thing to luck there is.
