Meet Montanna Mitchem of Tha Afterpary Radio, LLC in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Montanna Mitchem.

Montanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As the black female owner and director of Dallas, Texas’ premier online radio station, Tha Afterparty Radio, Montanna Mitchem, also known as The Madam of Media, always knew that it wouldn’t be easy to launch the station, let alone see it blossom into the powerhouse that it is today. However, she used all the roadblocks, obstacles, and detours that she faced along the way to her advantage to build the station into the powerhouse that it is today.

“A good friend and I were going through a separation from our husbands and we wanted an outlet and to be a soundboard to other women who were going through similar situations. Up until that point, I had let my passion for media fall to the wayside to focus on a new marriage and a new family and here it was crumbling apart,” Montanna explained.

Raising a family and managing a station can be challenging and not always glamorous, but Mitchem has never been one to back away from a challenge.

“Even though I was able to work things out and rekindle my relationship with my husband, I decided that I was going to pursue my dreams with no excuses. That was the year Tha Afterparty started and I have remained consistent ever since,” she said.

This Madam of Media is the lifeblood of the station and is always the one to get the party going on the air and off. Also, affectionately known as the “Boss Lady” around the station, for more than six years, Montanna’s grown Tha Afterparty Radio from a niche station into a media phenomenon with 24/7 radio broadcasting and live streaming. Continuously adding new shows with exciting, engaging hosts on a wide array of topics, including current events, celebrity news, black culture, entrepreneurship, religion and, of course, the latest music, Montanna strives to provide a diverse audience with quality programming 24/7. Additionally, she has expanded her repertoire to include creating high-quality commercials and promos to support fellow entrepreneurs and local businesses.

“I saw a lack of support for the ‘little people’ and I wanted to give them a platform that mainstream media won’t give.”

Wearing many hats, not only does Montanna run and maintain the station’s programming seamlessly, but she spearheads various events, such as her brainchild Tha Party Awards. Entering its 3rd year, this year’s award show will honor the station’s shows, hosts, as well as local artists, entrepreneurs, and businesses.

Even with a whole suite of shows broadcasting daily and special events on her plate, Montanna has a passion for civic duty and dutifully volunteers for Meals on Wheels on a weekly basis on her personal time. Further, she uses the station to support and nurture the community she loves with station-wide events like the Meals on Wheel fan drive where volunteers from the station and the community not only delivered hot meals to the program’s recipients but fans to cool off elderly residents during the summer. Additionally, Mitchem oversees a yearly sock drive for the homeless, back-to-school drives, town hall meetings, the “Water Drive for Flint,” free HIV testing events, and much more to give back to the community that has supported her throughout her journey.

Though there’s plenty of Internet-based radio stations out there, Montanna knows why hers stands out: “You don’t have to have experience or a background in communications. We aren’t celebrities and we are using our God-given talents to bring quality programming.”

Montanna wants to be an example to others that faith and commitment can truly make dreams come true.

“I’m here to prove that women can have it all! You can do all things through Christ who gives you the strength,” exclaimed Montanna.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes, there are struggles every day! Being taken seriously has been the biggest. Getting people to see the value in what we offer and how it benefits their brand. People are catching on to internet radio, so then you have the wannabees that are out there tarnishing the profession.

Please tell us about Tha Afterpary Radio, LLC.
We help podcasters curate contact through audio/video streaming to more than 180 countries. We are proud to use our God-given talents to bridge the world around us through music and conversation.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nope! Not a thing! No investors didn’t have a savings and I started from the bottom. I’m proud of that.
