Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Doolittle.
Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a large family, where conflict was the norm and finding your voice meant being the loudest person in the room. My parent’s careers were rooted in health care, and seeing them serve people in meaningful ways left lasting impressions on me as well as my siblings. We were always a family of givers but had our share of medical trauma, divorce and relational conflict in those impressionable years. It left to defeat and fear in our path until we found our own repairs down the road. I’ve been on the other side of the chair as a youth, adult, and partner. Finding the ability to look back on these years and revisit what I bring into my own life and relationship offers us a shared experience/opportunity.
There aren’t many family-based therapists in the Dallas Metroplex, and I find it odd since DFW is such a family-centric place. To me, this is a need that must be met, so it’s become a passion in my life. It takes great courage and vulnerability to come to a “stranger” for help. I believe you can’t get the benefits if you don’t take the risk, and It won’t be long until I shift from stranger to a guide you can trust. That’s why, from the start, trust is built on both sides as we navigate and grow through the messy parts of life. It is truly an honor to walk with you through the tough seasons. It gives me joy knowing that you’re willing to go through trials with me. To see the resolve and healing is so worth it.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, my desire is to help families find their growth through treatment of relational issues, life transitions, challenging developmental stages, or coping with a chronic or acute medical condition or a disability.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Currently, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with families, couples and individuals at Girls to Women and Young Men’s Health and Wellness in McKinney, TX. Previously, I trained at UT Southwestern Medical Center Family Studies Center, McKinney Neuropsychology and Children’s Medical Center. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Oklahoma State University. Through rigorous training that offered me the clinical ability to serve clients well, I grew alongside them too.
During my training, I lost important families members while supporting clients with their grief work towards healing, I stepped into conflict with families who cared deeply for one another and learned to appreciate their realness inviting me in, I walked with couples toward security in their seasons of engagement and marriage while taking steps with my partner on the other side of the chair, and as we began our own journey into parenthood, I became even more honored to sit with couples through their process to start families. All of these personal journeys during my training and early career have offered me empathy for those going through these stages, understanding for the complexities that come with joy-filled life transitions, chronic medical conditions, acute illness, and so much more. The work of a therapist continues to excite and humble me each day.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I help families find their way to understanding one another by uncovering the root issues. Together, we address more than the surface problems. I will go on the journey with your family as we walk through the process toward resolution. While I direct our sessions to provide structure and security in our shared space, you will find this transfers to how you feel more secure and connected in your home. Families, couples, and individuals who desire growth will be guided to their goals in a supportive therapeutic environment. Those going through life transitions or challenging developmental stages, reaching for connection and resolution in valued relationships, and coping with a chronic or acute medical condition or disability highlight the clients who share their journey with me. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidenced-based practice, I hope to empower my clients with increased understanding of one another, strengthened connection and security for their future.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up with four younger siblings, traveling offered us quality time free of commitments, distractions and the opportunity to connect. As I reminisce on trips to the beach in the summer, I feel a sense of calm and lightness, knowing worries were put aside and the strength of the sun and sound of ocean and conversation with my siblings were all I had to focus on. I think I need another trip to the beach soon!
