Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonya Thompson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. It was very diverse. At the age of nine, my dad’s job ExxonMobil moved us to Mobile, Alabama! Talk about a culture shock, very different than Texas! Everything was black and white (racially divided). My parents always kept me active in sports and church activities. I went with my mother a lot to volunteer, set up workshops, food drives, arts and crafts projects with people from the community as well as seniors citizens, delivered meals on wheels, and visited with the elderly at their home. I always loved helping and giving back! So with my passion to help others in 2008, I decided to go into the medical field and start working at Founders Plaza Nursing Facility, Wylie, Texas as a receptionist. I started learning and asking questions to other departments about “senior care” and what all you could do as an individual to help. To my surprise, they all said it was easy but some challenges, but the most challenging and hardest effort is finding people who are genuine and really care about others well-being.
In 2010, I gave birth to my son Jaiden and was still trying to figure things out with my career and which direction I should to go. I was a single mother and not happy with where I was in life financially, and I knew my son deserved more, and so did I! So, in the year of 2015, and I met Santhosh V. Thomas, CEO, very humble and giving. He offered me a position as Office Manager for a hospice company. I accepted the position because it was the best for me at that time, but I still knew I deserved more! One year later in 2016, I was promoted to Alt. Administrator and in 2017/18, I became COO of the company and soon after other companies! From there eventually, started my own company called The Music Box Studio, LLC. and a non-profit organization called Hands of H.O.P.E. Both are new startups but they are off to a great successful launch! Other professional affiliations include the newly appointed Ambassador for DFW Urban News a business platform that supports entrepreneurs. Leonard Young, the CEO and I have some future projects in store for DFW businesses very soon! I can’t go without mentioning a music LEGEND that we lost here in Dallas, TX, RIP C Struggs, you are greatly missed my friend, you will NEVER be forgotten!
Since I’ve dabbed into the music industry, I’ve already made some great connections with awesome people here in Dallas and outside of Texas!! I’ve also connected others as well to work together. Be on the lookout for many upcoming artist here in Dallas, here’s to name a few: 2Official, DuckyP, D-Maginest, CloneFreeTeezy,CloneFreeSpiffy
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not always been smooth due to my own choices and some situations I was put in and other situations that I personally put myself in. Also, coming from a middle-class family, everyone always seems to think that your “parents” have it, so you do, NO, I had to get it on my OWN! I had to learn to STOP caring about what others thought about me. A struggle of mine was learning how to forgive myself and others for the choices and decisions I made in my life. But in the end, I wouldn’t change a thing. My struggles and lessons learned have made me the woman and Mother that I am today! One thing for sure, I can adapt to any environment or situation that comes my way, I’m resilient! Through my journey, I’ve met and made some long life friendships and I am so so thankful!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Music Box Studio, Hands of H.O.P.E – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Hands of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everywhere) is a non-profit organization focused on connecting with the underserved by educating and connecting others with the resources they need to live a sustainable life within the community.
The Music Box Studio is an emerging and upcoming source outlet to support upcoming artist on the rise looking to grow, build, brand, and connect with others in the music industry. This platform will give the artist a place to start but the rest will be up to them! You determine your own destination. Consultation is available. I am the PLUG! Network is your net worth! #IAmTMB What made you fall in love with hip hop? That’s the million dollar question.
What makes me most proud of my companies so far since they are both new is that I started from the bottom, no handouts or favors were given. I didn’t look for others to gain anything, all I wanted was a chance and turned it into an opportunity for success!
What sets me apart from others is that I turn NO’s into YES! I am a go-getter and go over and beyond for others. I’m new to the music industry business but I’m not new to the love of music! I love a challenge! Challenges accepted! I want the culture of music to be used in a more positive way for our youth!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity here in Dallas! For the most part, everyone respects the different cultures, languages, arts, and entertainment that we have. We definitely set apart from the other cities! I would like to see more people supporting one another and uplifting, not HATE! I feel we all have a PURPOSE in life that God gave us and we must use it in a positive way!
