Meet Mychael Reid of Realtor with Rogers Healy & Association Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mychael Reid.

Hi Mychael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Son to a Belizean immigrant and a California native, I was born and raised in Inglewood, California. We lived in Inglewood for most of my early childhood and then our parents moved us out to the Inland Empire; Rialto, California to be exact. This is where I finished out the majority of my middle and high school years. As kids, we (and many of our friends) thought we lived a VERY comfortable life. Unbeknownst to us, our dad was working multiple jobs (sometimes day and night) and our mom was also working as well. They made sure that we never had to worry about anything financially and live as comfortable as possible.

After finishing High School, I knew that staying in California was not going to produce the lifestyle that I wanted. In 2011, I made the decision to move to Texas. The only thing I had going for myself upon my move to The Colony, TX, was an evening temp job at Bank of America. I knew that if I wanted to make a life for myself, I would have to make a HUGE leap. For 6 months, I slept on my friend’s couch in her 650-square-foot apartment with 2 other people. We had to make it work if we were all going to make something for ourselves.

Shortly after saving enough money, I finally got my own place in Frisco, TX! Granted, all that I had in the apartment was a bed from IKEA, pots and pans, and enough groceries to make tons of leftovers, but it was mine and mine alone. Although I had the full support of my family and knew I could call them for anything at any time, I wanted to grind hard to make ends meet on my own; just like my parents taught us. This is actually what sparked my change from an introvert to an extrovert. I started making connections that I probably knew would have made if I stayed in California. And then came the job that started my entire career off; working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.

Some people might see a call center customer service job as something small or temporary, but I didn’t. I seen it as a way to jumpstart my life into the corporate world, and that’s exactly what it did! I ended my apartment lease early in Frisco, TX, and moved in with a friend in Fort Worth. The distance from Fort Worth to Richardson wasn’t ideal (especially without a car and TRE and DART as my means of transportation), but sometimes you have to take two steps back to go 10 steps forward. Eventually, I moved into a Marketing role at BCBSTX, was able to afford to move back into my own apartment in Dallas and buy my first car.

In 2017, I accepted a position as an Account Manager at RealPage, Inc; a well-known Real Estate software company across the nation. During my 4-years with the company, it allowed me to gain extensive background knowledge and experience in the real estate industry (multifamily, single-family, and residential rental/leasing market trends, software, and key players). In conjunction to working at Real Page, I also moved to Maryland and became a Licensed Realtor in Maryland and District of Columbia.

After a successful career transition from RealPage, Inc. to SmartRent, Inc., I sharpened my knowledge of the Real Estate industry by accepting a position as Manager of Client Success Management. While overseeing a team mainly focused on the happiness and success of their client’s portfolios, I was able to gain knowledge of the multifamily/single-family residential IoT SmartHome industry, all the while still grinding out deals as a Real Estate Agent with my team in MD/DC.

With his passion, drive, and knowledge of the Real Estate world and the clients I served, I decided to pursue becoming a full-time Realtor. My partner and I decided to make the move back go Texas because my mother and father had also decided to join us in Texas! First licensed in the State of Maryland and having a successful career there, I am now licensed in the State of Texas as a Realtor and a Rogers Healy and Associates Agent!

Making that huge leap leaving California to move to Texas at the age of 20 and knowing only one person here was the scariest and craziest decision I have ever made, but knowing the work ethic my family instilled in me and the support I had to make a life of my own drove me to make sure I only succeeded. Although all the decisions I have made haven’t always been the best or profitable, it’s important to know that life is about lessons. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way, but it’s when you get back up from that fall and try again that you succeed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been an easy and smooth road! I think when you make huge leaps based on the trust of your faith, you have to realize that it isn’t always going to be easy. But it will be worth it when you look back after you’ve succeeded. I’ve made move changes (from CA to TX to MD to DC and back to TX), career changes, relationship changes, etc.

There have been times that I have only had $20 to my name and cereal for dinner because I wanted to get my first apartment all by myself without asking my family for help. I’ve had my phone bill due and/or service suspended because of a job/career change and pay dates being out of wack. There have been times that I have had to do InstaCart, just to put gas in my car!

After a massive company layoff in 2022, I decided to leverage my Real Estate experience and transition to being a REALTOR full-time! I say all of this to say that the road to success isn’t easy, but my faith in God has always kept me going. Staying true to my faith in God and listening to His guidance has been the roughest and most rewarding experience I’ve ever endured. Being a realtor is not for the faint of heart and it is a tough job! Not knowing where/if your next check is coming from alone will easily stress someone out. But the proof is in the pudding, and I work hard and put myself out there, and it’s paid off!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Realtor with Rogers Healy & Association Real Estate?
I am local Realtor and Apartment Locator in the DFW Metroplex! Primarily, I have been working with first-time home buyers/sellers in residential real estate sales and doing a ton of Apartment Locating with multifamily leasing clients. Along with the aforementioned divisions of real estate. I specialize in many areas of real estate; commercial leasing real estate, residential leasing, real estate investments, corporate real estate, and also offer relocation services as well.

Having lived in DFW area for a cumulative of almost 9 years and other parts of the country, I have been afforded the pleasure of having a very large network of friends, associates, and colleagues. Being an extrovert in this line of work is something that I am so proud of. I am able to walk into a room and make conversation, ask questions, or laugh with just about anyone. From client perspective, that’s a great trait to have in your realtor because you want someone who is going to advocate for you and your best interests at all times! It’s important to have not only someone who is outspoken and unafraid but also someone who is willing to learn and not know everything.

I strive to make sure my clients are well taken care of! My clients know me as someone who is always pushing to go a step above to listen to my their vision, put into perspective their long-term goals, and deliver the results. My clients also know me as someone who is very direct but personable. I’ve learned in this business that clients want to be treated as real people and not just a transaction. Because of that, I approach all of my clients with not only the facts of each property and transaction but in a way that relates to them and in a fun/inviting way.

What sets me apart is my vast experience, not only in the real estate industries and customer service but my life experience and diverse knowledge of other regions outside of Texas. Since DFW has become a huge melting pot over the years, it allows me to build a connection with some of the most unlikely clients! All of that traveling and moving was worth it! Coupled with being easily accessible to past and current clients, I always make sure to dedicate time to educate past/current/incoming clients so that they have the knowledge that they need to approach the home buying or selling process with confidence.

I make it my business to ensure that my clients are always happy and that they walk away with having an amazing experience. After all, purchasing/selling a home is a TON of money being spent by my clients and I want to make sure that they are happy and educated when doing it! The relationships I make with my clients are just for the months within the transaction; they are life-lasting.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One of the main things I would stress to new Real Estate Agents is… get out of your own head! You can do this! It’s a ton of information to know, but guess what…? You don’t have to remember everything right now! You will learn as you get more clients, take part in transactions, and close deals. No two transactions are ever the same!

Surround yourself with people who support and love you. People who want to see you win! This is a tough business, and there will be highs & lows. Your sphere should be there to support and uplift you through each of those seasons. It’s time to “clean house”!

Also, when choosing a Brokerage to hang your license, do your due diligence. Don’t just go with a Brokerage because of their name. Take the time to properly interview these Brokerages and make sure you jive and mesh with their core values. Make sure that they are truly there to support you, teach you, have your back, and that you aren’t just another agent bringing them money.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN! You spent months taking courses, stressing yourself out, studying for the exam, and passing it. It’s time to have FUN with all that money you spent!
