Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Wiler.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nadia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Some things just happen when you least expect it too. Like when my husband Luke proposed to me. Of course, I was on cloud nine but shortly after, I went into serious wedding planning mode. About 4 months in, I started meeting with different vendors looking for the right people to hire for our wedding day. I had an extremely hard time with this for many reasons. I struggled to find genuinely good people who cared about my wedding as much as I did. I struggled to understand prices on different services and what they offered me. Everything and everyone was all over the place. A huge priority on our list like most couples was our photographer. For me, I thought this part would be easy. I have a long history of working with photographers and I already knew what I loved and didn’t love. Some would say I was “picky” when it came to photos, okay yes, I was very picky. Along this journey, Luke finally looked at me and said, you know what you like, your great with people and you’re obsessed with all things weddings. Why don’t YOU become a wedding photographer? I didn’t have to think on this very long because I was already in. We very quickly went camera and equipment shopping and I dove right into learning everything about my new camera. Before we knew it, we had a full-blown wedding photography business all before we even got married ourselves. I was in love, and not just with Luke but with this new business. After 6 months, Luke decided he wanted in on the action and he grew an interest in wedding videography. It was the perfect combo. A husband and wife wedding photo & video team. We took the industry by storm because we were so passionate for what we were doing. With the same mindset from the beginning about the difficulties of planning your own wedding, we created our business around couples. We wanted them to have a great experience. We wanted them to not feel the same stress we experienced but in fact enjoy the process and feel confident with their decision making. I mean let’s face it, there are a lot of decisions you have to make for your wedding day.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always struggles starting a new business. For us this was our 2nd business. In 2014, we opened a local gym in Frisco, TX called POD Exercise. We both quit our jobs and dedicated our lives to POD Exercise as we were driven to be self-employed and do something that we loved. It was a huge risk and in the end, it was one of the greatest decisions we ever made. We met so many great people and it was because of the gym that we were able to start Wiler Weddings as a 2nd business. One of the first challenges that we faced was in balancing the dynamic of two completely different businesses. We noticed that if we gave too much of our attention to one business the other one would suffer. It became a complete juggling match. On November 1st 2016, we sold the gym to a couple who had been members of our gym from the very beginning. It was bitter sweet as the gym was our first “child” as some would say. The gym taught us a lot about business and people which really aided us in our wedding business.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wiler Weddings story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known as the dynamic duo of the wedding industry. We started this business less than 3 years ago and have shot over 100 weddings to date. That is pretty rare for those starting out. Many professionals who have been doing this for years hardly shoot 15-20 weddings per year and we are doing around 50 each year. Couples are booking us up to 2 years in advance to secure their dates with us. Because we are a husband and wife photo/video team more and more couples see the value in what we offer together as a couple. We are known for being ninjas on wedding days. It always makes us laugh when towards the end of a reception somebody’s aunt, uncle or grandma comes up to us and says “Boy you two did a great job, you were everywhere!” Simply put, we don’t want to miss a single moment. Weddings are so important and they are so important to us that we capture them perfectly. We know that when it’s all said and done we have one of the most important jobs of all. We are responsible for preserving the memories of one of the greatest days of most people’s lives. That’s a HUGE task at hand and we take it very seriously. I would say there are a lot of proud moments for us. One of mine personally was receiving recognition through a well-known editing company Mastin Labs who invited me to be a special editor in Vegas at the 2016 WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International). The WPPI is basically the super bowl for photographers. Being so new to the industry I was extremely proud to be given the opportunity. I feel that what sets us apart from the many others out there is our burning passion for what we do. Work doesn’t feel like work when you love what you’re doing. I think couples can easily feel that from us and they know they can trust us with their precious moments. We treat everyone’s wedding like it’s our own and that’s the way it should be. You get hired for one day so why not make it the best possible day ever!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We strongly believe that luck has nothing to do with anything. We believe in the law of attraction. What you put out into the universe you will receive in return. We never worry or fear that something isn’t going to happen or work out. We omit out loud and in our thinking that we are going to succeed and be the best. When you think your great, when you say you’re great and you do great things… you are great! It really is as simple as that.
