Meet Nancy Houston of Inside Out Leadership and Coaching in Southlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Houston.

Nancy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a LPC and also a certified sex therapist. I have worked on a large church staff and wrote and taught a marriage class for four years along with teaching numerous other topics on human sexuality and relationships. Before leaving staff, Dr. John Townsend, a NY times best selling author and leadership coach asked, if I would be interested in being a part of his team as an executive leadership coach. I currently lead three of those leadership groups, have a private practice and coaching business and recently published my first book with Regnery Publishers titled “Love and Sex: A Christian Guide to Healthy Intimacy.”

My mission in life is to help others to have fulfilling and meaningful relationships with themselves both personally and professionally, with others and with God.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I thoroughly believe struggles are a gift and cause more personal growth than smooth roads do. I personally had to overcome my childhood and many of the traumas from growing up in an abusive home. My father believed that a woman’s pantyhose cost more than she could possibly make it in the market place and her place was at home serving her husband and children. I married my high school sweetheart and had four wonderful children. As they grew up, I knew I wanted a career. But where to start? I started college around the same time as our two oldest sons and graduated with a masters degree four months before our youngest son graduated from high school. It wasn’t easy but it was worth every minute of juggling my different roles and fulfilling a longing for a meaningful way to make a contribution to the world I live in.

Please tell us about Inside Out Leadership and Coaching.
I am known as a speaker, LPC, Townsend leadership coach and sex therapist. I am also a relationship/human sexuality educator. I am an adjunct and fellow at the Townsend Institute at Concordia University. I wrote a course on human sexuality and teach that course yearly. People are also purchasing and reading the new book that was recently released so, I am adding author to my resume.

As a leadership coach, I have three groups, one in NY and two in Southlake, TX. We meet monthly for process group and to grow leadership skills both personally and professionally. I find deep satisfaction in helping others process and grow themselves to lead more fulfilling lives and to provide a place of deep belonging and support.
I am loving the experience of writing a book and mostly, I find the feedback and how the book is helping others the most satisfying. I also see clients in my private practice.

I love people and watching them discover, grow, heal and develop is what thrills me the most about my business.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I hope I would have more compassion on myself. Be less critical and less hard on myself. Integrate the good and the bad while celebrating that both are the realities of life. Tell myself more often, “It will all be OK, just be yourself.”
