Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Popplewell and Amanda Mendenhall.
Natalie and Amanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We both have similar back stories. We started doing photography in high school for fun and it turned into a business! We were friends, but did not work together at that time. I got married in 2011 and Amanda in 2012 and we both happened to decide to take a break from our photography businesses to focus on family. In the Fall of 2016, we both then decided to start our businesses back up. We began second shooting weddings for one another and loved it so much that we merged out businesses in 2017 to become Gingersnap Studios. A name we chose due to the fact that we are both redheads!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been mostly smooth, but like all businesses, we’ve had our bumps along the way. Though we work extremely well together, we’ve definitely had to learn each other quirks as well as how to compromise on some things. I for one think it has made me a better person and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Another struggle was learning how to be efficient during weddings and make sure we covered every aspect of the day! After having done 20+ weddings together we can confidently say we work together seamlessly and strive to make every wedding the best it can be.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gingersnap Studios – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are Photographers and specialize in weddings, although we also do families, newborns, seniors, etc. What sets us apart is, well, that there are two of us! Many other photographers have a list of second shooters they use, or they choose to shoot it by themselves. This is great; however, we know how to work with each other extremely well and know exactly where to be and what to be doing. We joke that we often read each other’s mind. This is very important since there are so many big moments and details to capture on a wedding day. We also know waiting to see your pictures is the hardest part! Within one week of a client’s wedding, we put out a blog with 80+ of the best images of your wedding day! We also strive to have your entire gallery delivered in 4-6 weeks!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is an amazing city, full of wonderful people. We love the endless opportunities! Our only dislike…. Traffic!
