Today we’d like to introduce you to Neil Foster.
Neil, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of North Texas. I started in the advertising business as a copywriter working for a couple Dallas agencies right out of school and then joined GCG Marketing in 1995 as a creative copywriter. I moved up in the organization rapidly and became a VP/Partner in 1999. I was then able to help reposition the agency from a design studio with 12 employees to a full-service creative content driven agency with 45 employees and doing almost $10M in annual billings with diverse client roster including ExxonMobil, 7-Eleven, Rheem, Hilton amongst other national clients. I also helped start three other successful marketing-related businesses including Ratio Digital Media which is backend website and App development company; Forward Digital Media which is a SEO and pay-per-click management company; and 7West Communications which is a med-com agency providing specialized medical services for the pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With every journey there are obstacles. The advertising industry is a challenging business with many ups and downs. The key to my success has been trying to surround myself with people more talented than me and to provide a good environment to retain employees and provide them with a solid career path.
Please tell us about GCG Marketing.
GCG Marketing is a full-service agency specializing in creative ideas and content to help good brands become great brands. These ideas can come in the form of strategies, tactics, ad campaigns delivered in all types of traditional and digital media. I’m most proud of the organizations longterm sustainability and solid reputation for delivering great work since 1973. What sets us apart is our hard-working culture of never cutting corners and never settling for just doing things “good enough.”
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood was beating my best friend’s team in pee-wee football in 6th grade. Epic bragging rights!
