Today we’d like to introduce you to Nerissa Polite.
Nerissa, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About five years ago, I would make the same dessert for every gathering, cookie pudding. A take on the southern classic banana pudding, but with no bananas. My friends and family were always asking me to make it. At one of my best friend’s daughter’s birthday party, I got an abundance of request to buy the pudding from me.
From there the idea came of making a legit business. The thought remained a thought for four years; last year March of 2019, I took the plunge and started branding my business via social media, gatherings, and trade shows. The outpour of love and support has been amazing. The main purpose behind 1Jar Desserts was to be apart of those special moments with our customers. In the past year, we’ve been apart of Christmas parties, family gatherings, game nights and more; creating lasting memories with 1Jar Desserts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Surprisingly it wasn’t as hard as I anticipated. I’m my biggest supporter and my own worst enemy. The journey of entrepreneurship has taught me to believe in myself, my brand, and stay consistent. Anything worth having is worth fighting for, so I’m always learning how to engage my audience, how to get more people to experience 1Jar Desserts. I like the challenge. My business is growing with me, pains and all. If anything, that’s the biggest struggle staying confident and consistent.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 1Jar Desserts – what should we know?
1Jar Desserts offers your favorite desserts in a jar! So far we offer our best-seller, cookie pudding; succulent, fluffy vanilla pudding with vanilla cookies in every bite. Customers can even customize their jar by adding fruit. Over the past couple of months, strawberry cookie has become more popular than our standard cookie pudding. We plan to over this summer cakes to the menu as well! 1Jar Desserts is different because we make every order to order, we pour love into every jar, and whether it’s a personal jar for the couch or a family platter for a wedding we want to make that memory pleasurable.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
1Jar Desserts feels like family. We want to cultivate those memories to be apart of her family photos and always be associated with comfort and a good time. We display that through our marketing; down to the delivery of the product.
