Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Blankenship.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been doing makeup since I could hold a brush. The world of beauty and aesthetics has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I have over 9 years of professional experience in the beauty industry, and I can honestly say, this is what I was born to do. It all started in Arlington as a customer service representative at a high end salon and spa in Arlington, Texas. I then relocated to the big city of Dallas for bigger and better opportunities. I landed a position at a luxury medical spa in the heart of Northpark mall. Not only did I help manage the salon and spa, but I also was a certified eyelash extension specialist, makeup-artist, and did custom airbrush tans. I then left the company for a bigger opportunity with more growth, because I was thinking long term. I was fortunate enough to be the business manager at Nordstrom Northpark for Y.S.L. cosmetics which was their #1 door of all retailers in the nation. Me and my team were recognized by L’Oréal 2 years in a row for record breaking yearly increases and sales performance. I was honored to have won the L’Oréal Luxury Service Excellence Award for Y.S.L., and won a full page spread in Women’s Wear Daily “Beauty Biz”. I was a Nordstrom Pacesetter and Customer Service All-star, which are both corporate awards for sales and service. I was then recruited by Lancôme to be their new sales and training coordinator for the Ft. Worth and Oklahoma area. That was short lived, due to my position being eliminated because of store closings, so I came back to my YSL family on the vendor side, as a freelance makeup artist February 2016. During this time, I was contemplating on what makes me happy and what I want to do as a career, that pays the bills, but more importantly, feeds my soul. I had an ‘AH-HAH” moment one day, and I decided I learned enough in the last couple of years to manage my very own small business. That’s when I started “The Brow Project”, and decided to become an entrepreneur and cosmetic tattoo artist. Ever since then, I have been the happiest I have ever been. Branching out on my own, was the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, I can honestly say it has been a smooth transition. I think the hardest thing is learning how to separate your work life and personal life. My life literally revolves around my business, but I can’t complain, because I’ve had a very successful first year as an entrepreneur. I know that this is just the beginning, and since I’m a one man band, I know I’ll eventually get to a place where I won’t take full responsibility for every aspect of the business. Even when I’m not in my studio, I’m still working- always.
Please tell us about The Brow Project.
I specialize in the art of microblading which is a semi- permanent tattoo technique done with a small blade to create 3D hair like strokes. It is the most natural way to achieve perfect brows every day, and is truly life changing for women. I believe I’m most known for my effortlessly natural, and fluffy brow technique. It’s not just about the artistry, but the tailored customer service and experience, and I also think that’s what separates me from my competition. Even though microblading is the hottest beauty trend right now, it has its ups and downs. It’s safe to say there is a plethora of under-qualified and untrained microblading specialists out there. I think it takes a special eye to really understand color, shapes, and what looks best aesthetically on each unique face.
I am most proud of my client testimonials, incredible clientele, and Brow Project supporters. It’s the people that truly believe in me and my mission to make women look and feel more beautiful. Periodically, I like to go through my Facebook, yelp, and google reviews, and reading my clients testimonials truly brings me to tears. It’s been an incredible experience thus far, and I’m so excited for what the future holds.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
To be honest, I’m thankful to say that I’m pretty satisfied with how everything has panned out. It definitely would be nice to have a part time assistant to take some of the load off my responsibilities, lol.
