Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki James.
Nikki, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I can remember as a young child playing school at home with my sister! During this game, my sister and I would pretend to be teachers. At this time in my life, I never really thought I would become a teacher. As an adult, I knew that I wanted a job where I could help people. I began my career in education as a long term substitute at a high school. This is where I found my passion for education. I also served as the school receptionist, attendance clerk, and office manager before becoming a teacher. This opportunity allows me to see every aspect of the education setting.
Six years ago, I began tutoring students on weekends. I felt that there was a real need for educational support in my community. Since COVID-19, the need has now tripled. So, I have stepped up to ensure that COVID-19 does not stop education. To God be the glory, I am now the proud CEO and Founder of Building Intellect Tutorial Services. The BITS team has now grew and we are ready to take virtual learning to the next level from all students!
Please tell us about Building Intellect Tutorial Services (BITS).
Building Intellect Tutorials Services (B.I.T.S.) is committed to building our future leaders. Our organization serves students in pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. The purpose of this organization is to ensure that all students are safe while providing an unforgettable learning experience by hosting virtual one on one and/or small group instruction. Our program will help children reach important educational milestones and instill the importance of education. Our one-on-one lessons are geared to meet the need of each student. Our small group instruction provides an environment closely aligned to a classroom. These interactive lessons provide a safe space for the students to develop meaningful connections with other students and provides an environment to learn and share ideas.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been a people’s person. I was voted “Homecoming Queen” at my high school.
