Meet Nöelle Overturf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nöelle Overturf.

Nöelle, before we jump into specific questions about your art, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been creating art as long as I can remember. My passion for creating things for others began in Junior High when I discovered an interest in calligraphy. I would spend hours and hours practicing out of a random calligraphy book, then do projects for my friends just for fun. During my college years and beyond, I experimented with other types of mediums and discovered that I LOVE creating abstract art with watercolors and acrylic paints.

Life got pretty busy from 2013-2017. Upon college graduation from SFA, I got married and started working full-time for The Bass Companies while also remodeling houses with my husband. During those years, I would still try to find time to paint, but could only do it here and there. In 2017, the Lord opened several doors for me, and now I am a stay-at-home mom to my 17-month-old son and manage my neighborhood’s Instagram page (The River District) as well as my husband’s business Instagram page (League Property Management). I found myself creating more and more art with this new venture, so I decided WHY NOT create an Instagram page as an “art diary” for myself?!

Fast forward to today, and I am in awe of how many amazing things I have been a part of and incredible people I have met since I put my artwork out into the world. Just last month, I had the privilege of live-painting at the St. Jude’s Celebration at Sundown silent auction! If you live in Fort Worth, you know it’s a special place where people have a BIG heart for supporting local businesses. It’s a place where artists love helping other artists. I feel so blessed to be a part of this supportive community and look forward to what the Lord has in store for my art journey the rest of the year!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been a few bumps along the way, but it always works out in the end! Sometimes I can overthink a commission piece or overwork my back when I paint. Should that happen, I usually give myself a few days rest and pour myself a well-deserved glass of wine, thank you! Probably the most challenging part of this season of life is carving out enough time to paint while also raising a tiny human and running two social media accounts. Nap-times are usually spent marking things off my long to-do list.

My family knows a painting is a way for me to recharge my “mom batteries,” so they do what they can to make that possible for me. My “why” for painting remains the same — I find so much joy being creative and I want my son to grow up watching me do something I love to do for others.

Please tell us about your art.
My business name is Nöelle Grace Designs. I create mixed media abstract paintings on paper and on gallery wrapped canvas. I tend to incorporate lots of texture, color and bold brush strokes in my paintings. There are no two pieces alike and each piece is made with a purpose in mind. You’ll notice I have many different “designs” because I truly let my imagination flow freely and follow my heart when I paint.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I want to keep learning, experimenting, and growing in what I’m doing and never stop having fun with it! I have big dreams for the future of my business, but I am truly just so grateful for the journey God has put me on thus far!
