Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Castillo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Oscar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After being laid off from a full time, 9 to 5 job, a friend who I used to pray with saw a drawing I made out of muffler dust, broken pencil lead, dirt off the ground and white out. He motivated me to go get a business license to begin doing something with my artistic talent and use the art he seen first-hand I was capable of. I had always had a passion for drawing and graffiti art, so it was just figuring out where to start and what to start doing with these ideas.
At that point Publik Dizplay came to life in 2009 from my little girl’s idea of making shirts to be sold in stores. She was disgusted by all the slogans and propaganda that the shirts sold there displayed and realized we could make a difference by setting a positive influence on the items we set out to design.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not! I think any business worth having you have your ups and downs, it makes you appreciate what you have all that much more.
When we started our company I didn’t even know how to email, let alone design a logo on the computer. Through many sleepless nights and many, many mistakes I taught myself how to use the programs we now use daily to design everything from a t-shirt to a full vehicle wrap.
We have been through the struggles of starting a company without any traditional loans or outside financial help. Along with that, a partnership that sounded like a great opportunity to grow the physical location of our company. However, it ended up not being what we intended.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Publik Dizplay – what should we know?
We consider ourselves a true “one stop shop”. You can get anything from screen printed t-shirts to channel letter signs.
We love working with our customers to design their logos and promotional stuff. Every business card, banner, post card, etc… is all custom made with our customers input into the design.
I think what has made us most proud is the times we have helped a small business get started and the first time the customer will walk up and see their window with vinyl graphics or the freshly wrapped vehicle and just the pride and joy in their eyes… that’s what makes it all worth it to us.
Our customer service is one of the things that we can say sets us apart from most other businesses. Through our appreciation of our customers there have been very few times that we don’t end up with more than a customer, they become friends who will just stop in and say “hi”.
We believe promotional marketing is not just a quality approach to advertising your company, but a crucial step in making sure it lasts. Making use of promotional marketing tools will uphold your company’s name and what it stands for.

People like Ronnie Cruz, who has been one of my greatest mentors and friends. And my wife, Melissa, who has been one of my biggest cheerleaders, motivators, the inspiration to keep me going to keep pushing forward and for always believing in me.
There have been a hand full of other people that have been put in our path that have taught us so much. They have taught us everything from how to run our machinery to just being that support when we needed it. It is nice to have people in your corner that understand the struggles from starting a business with nothing and being the inspiration to keep pushing on the days you feel like giving up.
