Meet Oscar Rodes of Residential Wind Farm in Midlothian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Rodes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Oscar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Even though I have a business in the oil and gas drilling service industry, I personally care very much about the environment and the negative impact of the continued and ever-increasing release of carbon dioxide derived from fossil fuels in the atmosphere.

With the objective to lighten our footprint on the environment, I decided to install 7 residential-type windmills on my farm where we live in Midlothian to provide, at least a portion of the electricity to my house, to our daughter’s house and to a barn I have on the property.
Any excess electricity that we do not use, goes back to the grid,

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle was the time it took to get all the permits to install the system. Local government officials scheduled several public hearings about the impact of the windmills on the community such as aesthetics, noise etc before issuing the final permit.

This number of units (7) installed in close proximity in just one location is considered the largest residential windmill farm in the state if not in the world.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Able to use new ideas and employ new technologies to advance a noble cause such as keeping the atmosphere a little less polluted.
