Today we’d like to introduce you to Osvaldo Torres.
Hi Osvaldo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m Ozzy. I have always been passionate about the game. I had a kid when I was 16, so I wasn’t able to pursue playing professionally as much as I wanted to. I short-runs training professionally in Mexico but decided to come back home when my son turned 1. When I returned, I played college ball at Richland College and won a national championship in 2007. Since I have been playing semi-pro in the UPSL and still play today.
As far as coaching, I have been training kids for about 10 years now. Doing it full time for about 4 years. I started off training my friends’ kids and creating content from our sessions. That’s how FAIRWAY SOCCER ACADEMY started. The more I pushed the content the more clients I got. I would go to my day job from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and go straight to the fields for my sessions. Normally I got home every day at about 9 pm. After about a year or so I of doing this, I finally built my clientele enough to quit my day job and do it full-time to put all my energy into my sessions. Sometime after I got with my now fiancé Melanie Barnes. She also played and coached. We started working together, and things blew up! We now have over 150 active players in our academy. This is our 2nd year we clear over $100k with 4 employees.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things at first were not easy. We had to make a lot of changes as far as how we organized our business. We adopted an online-only booking system, and that helped a lot.
Our training and sessions aren’t always perfect, but we learn from every session!

Fairway Soccer Academy is an elite training program for soccer players of all ages. I am the owner and head coach. We are known for our skill/footwork patterns and high-intensity training atmosphere. We train some of the best players in the state. I firmly believe we are one of the best training programs around. We offer private, partner, and group sessions!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Since my fiancé and business partner got together, we now have an 8-month baby boy. His name is Jordi Pierre Torres. All of our players know him since we take him to work with us every day
