Meet Page Gruetzner of Flying V Ranch Event Venue in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Page Gruetzner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Page. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thanks for having us! My mom and I converted the cattle auction barn on our family’s ranch into an event venue about seven years ago after the unexpected death of my father. My mom needed something to throw herself into and, assuming we would host about ten events per year, we thought this would be a nice hobby/side hustle for her during that time. I was in the interior design program at Texas Tech at the time and was able to use this opportunity as my first real-world project. What we thought would be a small hobby, though, has turned into a full career for both of us! I now operate the event venue full time while my mom has recently taken a step back to enjoy her retirement years!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many various struggles of being a small business owner in general, but one of the most unique struggles that we did not necessarily anticipate is having our family ranch turn from a weekend place of rest and respite into our workplace where we are often very busy making things happen for the venue and completing the always growing to-do list. Sometimes, I really have to remind myself to step back, take in all of the gorgeous views, and take a deep breath to appreciate my surroundings at the ranch. However, it has also been a blessing to be able to share this special place with so many others and to see the beauty of the ranch appreciated in the eyes of others!

Flying V Ranch Event Venue – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Flying V Ranch is an event venue on a private working Texas cattle ranch. We primarily host weddings but have also hosted corporate and charity events, as well as editorial shoots. We specialize in a boutique and inclusive approach to weddings, especially. All of our packages are built to offer a more inclusive experience that eases stress for brides and grooms during the planning process. We have also recently started offering fully all-inclusive packages that have become very popular for the couple wanting a simpler wedding planning process. We are also still a small, family-run business and plan to always keep it that way- we never want to turn into a wedding factory. We always make an effort to operate with soul and really enjoy getting to know and work with all of our clients.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Last year, we were inducted into the Hall Of Fame for The Knot’s Best of Wedding Venues. This was such an honor and felt like a really tangible accomplishment of our hard work over the years. However, nothing feels better than a bride and groom or their families reaching out to us after events to express their sincere gratitude and accolades from their experience with our venue. It gives me goosebumps every time that we are able to be the reason why someone had such a special and joyful wedding day or event.
