Meet Paige Schoolcraft of Panther City Salon in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Schoolcraft.

Paige, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from West Texas A&M in 2014 with a Bachelors in Business Administration and Management. I quickly accepted a job working in management for Sherwin-Williams. My favorite part of that job was making custom stain and paint matches because I had a keen eye for undertones and contributing pigment. Little did I know that skill would translate into doing hair! After working in retail management for a few years, I decided I needed a career change. After looking at my options, my husband encouraged me to look into becoming a hairstylist. So I went back to school, obtained my license, and have been working as a licensed stylist for the past two years.

One of the reasons I decided to become a hairstylist is that I hated my hair growing up – in fact, I was bullied for it – and my life changed when I was given my very first straightening iron. I grew up overseas in a hot, humid climate. For me, that first straightening iron was a game changer! I felt so confident after using it and I want to help others feel the same way I did. I take great pride in the fact that I am in an industry that is always changing. There is always something new to learn, and I love learning all the new ways to help people love their hair! In my free time, I’m always watching a video or reading up on a new technique to better serve my clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
In July 2019, my husband also decided he needed a career change, so we packed up and moved from Midland to Fort Worth after he was offered a job doing what he loves. I was excited for him and for our new adventure, but it also meant that I had to rebuild my clientele from scratch and figure out what kind of hairstylist I wanted to be in this new place. I was very fortunate to find a home at Panther City Salon, where I have been able to grow my business and keep Fort Worth beautiful!

We’d love to hear more about Panther City Salon.
Panther City Salon is in Near Southside. The salon is in an old bank building and it is the coolest, most unique salon I’ve ever seen. I love the work environment – we’re all independent stylists, we all do our own things well, and we support each other. I specialize in low maintenance blonding, color, color corrections, and hand-tied extensions. I recently became the third stylist in Fort Worth to become certified in the Invisible Bead Extension Method. My goal is to help my clients feel strong, beautiful, and confident by giving them the hair they’ve always wanted. One of the things I love most about what I do is being able to help my clients experience the transformation they’re looking for whether that’s having the color they’ve always wanted, that cute new cut that frames their face in the perfect way, or the added volume and length that can be achieved through extensions. I want my clients to love their hair!!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, absolutely! One of the reasons I was so excited to move to Fort Worth was because I knew I would have the opportunity to work with my ideal clientele and offer the services I love to provide. I would definitely recommend someone who is just starting out to find their fit here. A metroplex is a big place. Anyone who has the desire to put in the time and effort can carve out their own niche here. I don’t subscribe to the idea that there’s not enough clientele for everyone. I believe in community over competition. One of the reasons I love the salon I’m at is because everyone there is very collaborative. I’m not afraid to refer a client to one of my colleagues if I feel they were better suited to help the client achieve what they’re looking for. In a place this big, everyone can find their perfect fit!
