Meet Pamela Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Edwards.

Hi Pamela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Pamela Edwards born and raised in the heart of Oak Cliff. I usually like to go by Pamela Danai or LadyLasers which is my artist’s name. It’s funny how at a young age as long as I can remember growing up, I have been creative and a self-taught artist. There was a time when I wanted to draw my favorite Looney Tunes character Tweety Bird. Being so determined I would draw until I got it down without having to use the reference photo. I have watched my father create amazing art as well. That’s where I got my artistic talents from. My mom was even into arts and crafts at one point, so I guess you can say my parents encouraged and inspired me to be creative.

As of today, I just pull inspiration from other artists, museums, my peers, things that I see searching images online, or just walking around town finding random things that are intriguing. I am obsessed with graphic designing, so I try to incorporate that into my artwork as well. I have participated in multiple art shows in the past. Such as Pancakes & Booze, Chocolate & Art Showcase, The Urban Chatter Art & Fashion show, and currently Color Abstractions exhibit curated by Create Arlington gallery just to name a few. The goal one day is to have my very own solo art exhibit. Possibly own a creative space where other artists can showcase their work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been lots of bumps in the road. I don’t want to be just one-sided when it comes to my creativity. Over the years that I have been wanting to really establish myself as an artist. I believe I struggle all the time trying to come up with fresh new ideas. I keep having this block of not feeling inspired at times. The world is forever evolving, technology is changing, and trying to outdo myself can be overwhelming at times. Even when I know my heart is telling me that I should be creating. There’s self-doubt, I am grateful for those who keep reminding me how dope of an artist I am. It’s very difficult to feel motivated at times, but I have pushed through over and over again. I just want to tap into everything that stimulates my passion for the arts.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a visual artist. I specialize in canvas art. I use acrylic, oil paints, and other mixed mediums mostly for my paintings. I am known for the bold colors and style using portraits, minimal, sometimes geometric shapes, a little typography, and surrealist subjects in my art. I take multiple images and combine them. Almost like making a collage of ideas just to make one image. I am expanding my range using different mediums and surfaces for my artwork, so stay tuned for new future pieces. Not to mention I have also loved photography. I’ve been taking footage of concerts I have attended and other past events. It’s been a hobby of mine for years now. Creating music is another small hobby of mine. I do have a few beats I made that are more like the LoFi type of vibes currently on my Soundcloud page. I am hoping to get deeper into music production soon.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
There are not too many apps, books, podcasts, or blogs I use. The app I use the most is Spotify. I use it to search for different playlists. As of now I just really go day by day using inspirational quotes, words of affirmations, and listening to music. I even try to write down my thoughts or emotions that I may be going through at the moment. I find this to be therapeutic for me and seems to be working. If anyone has suggestions on what resources may interest or benefits me, I am always open to checking them out.
