Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Jones.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a single mom that has always enjoyed the social scene and meeting new people. I have found that dating and building relationships wasn’t so easy. I wanted to come up with a new way to meet people and make connections outside of dating apps and club scenes. With the influx of transplants from new corporations here in the Plano area, I figured I would develop a way for people to get together with like-minded individuals and make intentional connections.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been easy. I started this business in July 2018 while I was working a full-time job but was laid off few months later in September. I have put my heart and soul and every dollar I own into making this business succeed. I am a one-woman show so I do everything myself. There are no days off!!!! My biggest struggle is how to get people to see the purpose and vision of the company and how I can help tackle the hurdle of meeting new people.
Lovers or Friends – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I like to refer to Lovers or Friends as a relationship building company. I believe in making intentional connections so I created this company to connect singles on several levels, business, friendships, and dating. I love planning events and I love meeting new people. Starting this company is a mix of both my loves. I also enjoy connecting people and resources. This company isn’t just about dating. It encompasses all areas of relationships-sisterhood, brotherhood, networking, dating, etc. I have events 2-3 times per week now. Our networking events are called Meet and Greets and they are tailored to specific age groups, industries, and areas of town. Our friendship events are called Interactives because they require interaction from everyone that attends. There are Girls Night Out and For Guys, Only events, as well as game themed events that get everyone in the room conversing. Our MatchMaking events are just that, matchmaking. I am bringing back The Dating Game, but making it live! There will be one contestant that chooses from 3 potential dates without seeing them. This will be done in a theater setting and will be filmed and put together like a real game show.
I am most proud of the response I am receiving from those that have heard about LF. They think it is a great concept and believe it will be an amazing tool to meet new people. LF is for ages 25 and up and all races and ethnicities. What sets me apart from others is because I am providing an experience unlike any other. I believe in the value of true relationships and want to make a difference. I will be at all the events ensuring that patrons get the experience they paid for.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was the day of my launch. Starting a business is like having a baby. It starts with conception, the moment you decide what your business will be. The first trimester is putting all your thoughts together and determining how to make your dream and vision a reality. The second trimester involves doing the leg work, determining your target audience, doing a SWAT analysis, developing your brand. The third trimester is when everything comes together, website, branding, promotions, etc. Then finally, it’s push time! I officially gave birth to Lovers or Friends on January 8th, 2019. Now, I am focusing on developing and growing each stage of the business.
