Today we’d like to introduce you to Parker Cates.
Parker, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Starting in 2016, I opened our first business called Real Deal. It is a sober living company that helps addicts and alcoholics transform their lives and adequately transition into society.
In 2018, I opened a company called EMCD that is a property company that owns the space that Real Deal leases from. Egon is also invested in other companies but has 100% control in Real Deal, EMCD, and DDR (DFW Drug Rehab).
Egon will continue to grow into markets that are focused on improving lives in many different spaces. I am honored to call Dallas home and work with the best people in the best city in the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Hell no. We grew way too fast in 2019 and almost imploded. It was my fault. I was obsessed with growth (Without looking at outside funding). However, I am grateful for the difficult times because it showed me what I am capable of. I will work 18 hours a day, eat out of pantries, and sleep on the floor to continue to do what I love.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Egon Holdings story. Tell us more about the business.
Real Deal specializes in taking drunks and addicts and turning them into functional members of society (while finding joy, consistency, and purpose). EMCD is all about Real Estate and finding effective partners to operate with (like Real Deal). We are most proud for the growth that we have, with clients, families, and within the business. Real Deal is so far from the others. We aren’t solely focused on the avoidance of drugs and alcohol. That is a miserable place to be. Instead, we believe in total wellness, happiness, and consistent action.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, I believe I am lucky to have the obsessive, non-stop drive that will not allow me to sleep without completion. But, ultimately I believe luck is apart of destiny, and waiting around for it is for the birds.
