Meet Pasang Lama of Quick Track

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pasang Lama.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pasang. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was in my early twenties, when I came to Texas all the way from Nepal. I joined college. Through a student group network, I found a job as a night shift clerk at the Seven Eleven store. I took the job immediately and toiled away. I ran my shift daily and substituted my associate’s shift, whenever necessary. For so long, I operated two consecutive shifts because we were shorthanded. I diligently executed my duties as it came up whether it was writing the report or cleaning the bathroom. I believe my boss took a note of my flexible schedule and bona fide performance. Next year, I was promoted in the day shift as an assistant manager and became a store manager a year later.

I was a proud store manager. I learned so many things about operating the retail business. A year later, I worked with EZ Mart as a district supervisor. I supervised several EZ Mart stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Working with EZ Mart, I did lots of data reporting, managed staffs at the store, and met few executives who led me to own a business after a year later.

There came a time in my mid-twenties, I found an opportunity to purchase a C-store via EZ Mart. It was the year 2002. It was a low volume store and was located in the small neighborhood. I presented this prospect to my family. They embraced my idea and came on board to start our new venture together. My father has an entrepreneurial background and has a great business acumen. It was exciting to open our first store together. We are hard working immigrant family and We have put in tremendous effort into this venture. Instead of just providing good products at a great price, we assessed our customer needs and invested heavily in customer service. Soon after, we were seeing lots of repeat customers. We not only survived, but thrived in our first store. We named it as a Quick Track.

Fast forward two years, we purchased our second store and have been aggressively acquiring new stores every year since that time. We have now reached forty-five retail locations with the name of Quick Track in the North Central Texas and East Texas Area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting out was quite a challenge because there were financial setbacks. During clerking days, I had logged in 18 hours a day for more than a year. I juggled owning a C-store and working as a Supervisor for EZ Mart. As big as we are now, C-store industry is tough to make it.

First of all, it’s labor-intensive and hard work. Second of all, We have to work with a very little profit margin. If we don’t focus on selling volume of products, we won’t make the day end. Above all, the biggest threat I see in C-store is that there is so much competition.

However, I do not fear competition. Instead, I thrive on overcoming these adversities. I love the adrenaline rush from successfully overcoming these new challenges.

It’s a challenging industry, to begin with. We have lots of rooms for improvements. However, We have made it through here and will continue to move forward and grow. Steadily, we will be burgeoning at our own pace.

Quick Track – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our company is known as Quick Track. It is a convenience store combined with a gasoline station business. The Quick Track chain specializes in striving to be always best in service, best in price and best in quality in the convenience store business. We strive to be a core part of the neighborhood where we are located, even if we are on an Interstate Highway. We want our neighbors to come to our store for coffee, cash their checks, quickly pick up needed items or even hang out in the store for a conversation with others from the area.

From the beginning, I have employed a small team of family, friends and associates to work with me. They have stuck by me, believing in me and my vision. They have become a special part of that vision and I am very proud of my team at Quick Track.
