Meet Patrice Scott of Time2Relax in Downtown Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Scott.

Patrice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Approximately 3 years prior to military retirement, I found myself stressing over what my life would be in the future. I decided to schedule a massage to alleviate my anxiety. Immediately after the massage, the feeling of overwhelming joy, relief came upon me, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to give the feeling I had to others. Too often many people center their lives around their employment. In no way would I degrade anyone’s dedication to his/her job. However, along with that dedication should be a commitment to self-care. The workplace can be demanding, fast-paced, mentally stressful, posture-debilitating, and even dangerous. The premise behind my business was to ensure my customers knew, first and foremost, time with me was their Time2Relax. I submitted my application and after my interview, I was accepted to attended the Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington, DC. (Now located in Silver Spring, Maryland.) Upon graduation and certification, I independently practiced massage therapy in the Metro Area part-time. After retirement, I worked full-time as a government employee and continued to practice massage part-time.

In 2016, I felt it was time to pursue my passion full-time. I retired from my federal job and moved to Dallas, Texas for a totally new start. The economy is great and I have been a Dallas Cowboys fan for as long as I can recall, so it was an easy decision. Today, I am living my dream and spreading good vibes to everyone I touch.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey hasn’t been smooth because it was not possible to give 100 percent to my passion being that active duty service is a 24-hour job; and working for the federal government was quite challenging as well. After working for more than 20 years for someone else, the largest struggle was the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and follow my own path. I had to change my mindset, embrace the knowledge, and gained experience from those two careers. Massage therapy had to take second place on my priority list. Another struggle was being financially prepared to pursue my passion.

There were mandatory qualifications, certifications and licenses, to complete. All of which had financial requirements and time management. Time management was a huge component when deciding to become a business owner. Providing personalized service, you must be mentally and physically prepared to give a lot of yourself. Coupled with those factors were advertising and face-to-face outreach.

Please tell us about Time2Relax.
I am licensed massage therapist centered around holistic care. Belonging to an extraordinary group of people, I became certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. My business is Massage therapy is a wellness modality that focuses on manual muscle manipulation. The affects can have a positive outcome on many of the body systems. I am well-versed in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Stone Therapy, Active Isolated Stretching, and Prenatal Massage.

What I do is ensure my client’s feel accepted, respected, and understand that being on my table or chair is their escape from everything else on their agenda. My ability to make my clients feel the serenity and positive energy I’m transferring during their massage appointment can be seen by the look on my client’s face after their massage.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I feel that the experiences that we all have had in our past make us who we are today. If you change one thing in your past you are no longer who you are today. Therefore, I would not have done anything differently because those experiences contributed to the knowledge and experience that make to my ability what it is today.
