Meet Patrick Vines of OneDumbDude Podcast in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Vines.

Patrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
So, I have always been super social and interactive with people. I love to talk and I love to hear peoples stories. I used to be a bartender in a busy part of Downtown Dallas and met all kinds of people. I loved hearing about where they were from and what they did. My partner in this venture, Bryan, used to tell me I would be great on a podcast because I liked to talk and always asked all the right things. Although I have always been social, I used to be plagued by the fear of success honestly. I was so afraid to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. When I finally made the leap, I was so surprised by all of the support. It definitely makes me wonder where I’d be if I started ten years ago.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
What’s a smooth road? Ha. Definitely not. This whole ride has been bumpy, but mostly minor things. I don’t have a background in video or audio, so there has definitely been a learning curve. I did not want to go all in and spend a bunch of money on equipment, but I also didn’t want to look like I was making videos in a closet. Where we are now might actually be in between! Haha.

Please tell us about OneDumbDude Podcast.
Everything was started around the Podcast portion, but quickly it grew into other content. We host our podcast audio on Apple Podcasts and Messy.fm, we host the videos of the episodes on YouTube. On the YouTube channel, we have uploaded some vlogs, motivational videos and even “how to’s”. We are still very young and new in this content creator world, but I know where we are headed and that is what I am proud of most. I am proud that we will be speaking to local friends, family, business owners, and entrepreneurs. I really don’t want to interview anyone, I want to have open, honest and genuine conversation with people about whatever is important to them. Their stories, struggles, accomplishments, and hobbies. I am proud to give people a voice to be heard. The community I grew up in is mostly Hispanic, mainly of Mexican heritage. A majority of my guests will be minorities. I think that in itself will give people on the outside of these type of communities an insight of how they grew up.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have definitely started earlier! I would worry less about the equipment and the space and focus more on the actual content. Content is king. Everyone has to start somewhere and nobody starts at the top. Also, I would care less about what other people think. You can’t let other people’s opinions halt your success.
