Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Barton.
Phillip, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always done concrete work, right out of High school. I started doing decorative concrete when I was 23 and fell in love with the finished products. I worked for a few decorative concrete companies in the Dallas area and then got in to Polishing concrete 8 years ago Working for one of the, if not the, largest Concrete Polishing companies in the country for 5 years. I traveled all over the country and move 4 times in those 5 years for that company. I learned all I could and even put myself in situations that I did not prefer to be in, just to meet certain people. after 5 years of doing this, I decided it was time to begin my own Concrete Polishing company. This way I could take what I’ve learned and do it better without any restrictions that come with working for a large corporation.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since Allied Concrete Systems has started it has been both rough and we have been fortunate. It has been rough from time to time because finding the right people to bring on to the team is not easy. We are still fighting this battle because we want to continue to grow, but in order to grow you must have the right team members. We continuously look for people who are motivated and want to be the best at what they do as well as people who work well with each other in a team environment.
We have been fortunate because the core group of team members that we do have turn over Quality jobs and word of mouth has been our biggest sales tactic thus far.
Allied Concrete Systems – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Allied Concrete Systems specializes in Commercial Decorative Concrete. Our favorite thing to do is Polishing Concrete. We are best known for our value that we bring to the projects. We choose to render more services than we are paid for anytime we do a project. We believe in going above and beyond for our customers. We are very proud of our Crew and their ability to complete projects within the deadline that they are given without sacrificing quality. They work very hard sometimes to do this. We are different than other companies because we go the extra mile in finding out our customers’ needs and working around their schedules, whether it be day/night/ or weekend so that the project does not slow down on our account. If a business is already open and cannot or does not want to lose revenue by shutting down operation we will come in at night to perform our duties.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when my entire team is happy and their families are happy. At the same time, it is very important to us to keep our customers happy. We set weekly and monthly goals that benefit everyone involved and that is how we measure our growth.
