Meet Phillip Rohe of EDKO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Rohe.

Phillip, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2006 I moved from Buffalo, NY to work for my uncle, who owned and operated Darco Designs here in Dallas. I started as his assistant running materials to various job sites and eventually apprenticed under one of his tile setters. From there, I was able to learn the business from the ground up. Unfortunately, in 2013 my uncle, David Rohe passed away. With the support of my family, I started EDKO in January of 2014. Then in 2018, I had the opportunity to expand my business and purchased our current building in Irving, TX.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been 100% smooth, there have been learning curves throughout the process and I had to work really hard to get to where I am today. There are always the day to day challenges that arise, but I’d say the biggest challenge was taking over after my uncle passed. It was time to sink or swim. There are days I wish I could pick up the phone and ask him questions. I have had to just figure it out along the way and adjust where I need to.

Please tell us about EDKO.
We are a stone fabrication and tile company. We specialize in the solid surface installation (i.e. granite and marble). We like to focus on custom homes, where great attention to detail is critical. We focus on making sure every job is done with the highest quality and perfection. We have a lot of fun doing custom fireplaces, we have installed some real showstoppers.

We are most proud when we see our work featured in magazines. It is nice to see our hard work in print. We take pride in making each of our customers, 100% satisfied. We make sure things are done right from the start so the finished product is nothing short of amazing.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hindsight is 20/20. I don’t really feel like there is anything I would or could have done differently per se. When being involved in any specialized trade, it is imperative you start from the bottom and learn every aspect of the business. We had to grow the trust of our clients and we let our work speak for itself.
