Meet Phillip White of Phit Clothing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip White.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I found my passion for being creative at a young age. In school, I would daydream of all the things I wanted out of life. Not knowing how to let my dreams turn into a reality I took a different path from being creative to essentially picking a degree from a college catalog. I don’t regret my education or my experience in a corporate job if anything it has prepared me for entrepreneurship and teaching me to be patient. In 2015 I took a trip to Thailand and had amazing experiences and had the opportunity to reflect on what I wanted out of life and that’s when I decided I needed to be creative again. Once I got back to Dallas from vacation I decided to attend a local fashion show.

After that show, I was inspired to become a designer. During this time I had taken up fitness to help with stress from work and focus on my health. I loved attending boutique fitness classes but felt a little out of place with the not so fashionable men’s activewear choices I had. I decided I wanted to buy some better clothing that was a better representation of my style outside of fitness, I tried a few shops and didn’t find clothes that fit my particular body type. In may of 2016, I remember having a dream of starting my own activewear line and the vision was so real that it woke me up and I wrote my business plan in the notes app of my iPhone at 3 am. Phit Clothing was born from the idea of being more inclusive in the activewear industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! When I had this vision of my company I thought it would be much easier. Little did I know starting your own clothing line is quite the challenge. The most important aspect of my clothing line is finding the right fabric.

This took several trips to Los Angeles to do all my research. One of my friends gave me contact info for a fabric dealer who was so incredible and she was very honest and told me the problems I would run into. And she was right about every issue that would arise from fabric to sampling and manufacturing.

I wanted to launch my clothing line in 2017 but it just was not possible because I was not happy with the quality of the samples, This is where I had to learn patience and to trust my instincts,

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Phit Clothing story. Tell us more about the business.
Phit Clothing is a size inclusive men’s activewear line that incorporates fashion and performance all in one, A lot of my designs are based on needs I saw for living an active lifestyle on the go whether in a gym or your next flight. The first collection was designed to be worn in sets or separated to be incorporated into your regular wardrobe, So you can easily meet your friends up for brunch after working out and look stylish. I’m most proud of the mission of Phit Clothing is to include more people in the conversation about body positivity and fitness.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have been so fortunate to have met so many incredibly talented creatives who were so helpful to me and this journey to launch. As hard as this journey has been my friends have been incredibly supportive of my dream and believed in me on the days I felt like giving up. I would say my faith has been the main driving force behind this business.
