Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Alford.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Porsha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a dog lover, however, I didn’t actually have dogs growing up as a child. It wasn’t til my pre-adult years I had my first real dog. I’ll never forget him his name is “Yo” he was a small black dog which later passed while in college. Later after graduation when I moved to Dallas, my boss and I did volunteer work at an animal shelter in DeSoto. My boss thought having a puppy would be a good idea and that’s when Mollie came along that was in 2013. Fast forward 2016 I now have 3 dogs Mollie Deuce and Diesel. How did I get stuck with 3 dogs I have no idea however I love all my fur babies. So, how I started my business, I got off late one evening and I noticed I forgot to buy dog food, all the local stores were closed. Of course, I didn’t want them to wait, however, I didn’t want to just give them table food either. So, I looked up how to make easy dog treats and I found out peanut butter oatmeal and banana could make a delicious healthy treat for your dog. I had all three items so I knew it was a sign from above. I made the treats my dogs loved them. So, I started finding more things to make and I dogs enjoyed my treats more and more to the point they wouldn’t eat the store brand food I purchased for them anymore. So one day, I decided to make different treats and walk around the Dallas area passing out samples to other dog owners to see if other dogs would approve, I then came up with the name and I decided to name it after Mollie. Mollie B’s Doggie Bakery. I’ve had many errors and it’s been a learning experience over the years however I will never give up. I enjoy baking and being able to give dogs healthy delicious treats.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road starting out. My first year, I learned there’s a lot of picky dogs out there and a lot of dogs with food allergies. My second year, I had to take a break from my business due being on bed rest while pregnant, so I took a lot of time while on bed rest to study everything about dog food, what they should and shouldn’t have eaten, what was good for them, no grain treats, vegan treats different diets for dogs, etc. Then, I begin to come up with my own recipes for MollieBDoggieBakery.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mollie B’s Doggie Bakery – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
