Meet Porsha Kimble of Your Cake Diva in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Kimble.

Porsha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Brown Sugar Cake Retreat started three years ago. The idea came from constantly being rejected from other cake shows. I felt there were repeat presenters and teachers and I wanted to give a platform for newbies and people in the cake/treat community a chance to level up in their business. It is hard to break into teaching and demonstrating in the sweets community because the offers are so limited.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been bumpy. If it was smooth, the experience would not be worth it or how it has developed.

Not being taken seriously by brands/products.
People allowing their egos to get in the way.
Not having the right team around you.
Funds being low.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have made custom cakes for 15 years. I also travel the world teaching cake and treat makers how to turn their home baking into a full-blown profitable business. I also teach hands-on classes for those looking to advance their cake decorating skills.

I am most proud of my growth. The revenue stream in the cake/baking industry is so large, I never thought I would be able to grow my cake business without making an actual cake after so many years. However, that was the goal. To expand in other areas without physically working so hard every weekend, but still make money. That’s why I love the online cake decorating classes I offer and the annual Brown Sugar Cake Retreat.

What sets me apart is my journey and how I began baking. I come from a unique background but yet my story is like many others. Being able to step away from the kitchen and reach other bakers around the world with advice and sharing my own experiences and knowledge, I truly believe puts me in another arena. We all have a story but it’s how you share it and deliver your message to people that makes you relatable.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! We love living in Dallas, Texas. The land of “Go BIG or go home” mentality.
