Prasad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Landing in this country about twenty-five years back with two thousand dollars in pocket to complete my Master’s Degree, it was a journey to remember. Finishing up my engineering in India and looking to pursue higher education came to United States in 1992. After finishing up my masters had a couple of jobs and lived in Pittsburgh, PA for twenty years working for Bayer as an IT professional, looking for something to do in my free time, started off with my first venture of selling Indian DVD’s online, developing the first movie portal for regional language movies for audience here. Then, moved to the restaurant industry starting my real brick and mortar store, a small location, not knowing what I am getting into. It was a learning experience for the first year and getting the knowledge of what retail business is all about, customer service and take care of your employees as family, they give you back what you give them.
The success came in naturally sticking to those two primary focus points. Expanded the restaurants to three locations and opened three retail stores and having my daytime job, it was an experience never to forget and managing my time with family and business at the same time. Ten years into the business it got too monotonous, looking for something else moved to India for about a year not knowing what I am getting into, which did not last a year, decided to come back. Options were going back to Pittsburgh and start over or move somewhere else, that is how landed in Dallas with the help of a school classmate, working for him for a few months with the heart still in looking to start my own business.
In that process got into Massage Envy Carrollton location about five years back, learned the business model and sticking to the same business points it worked well, looking on expansion, acquired a second location in Firewheel about two years back. This year while relocating my first Envy location, was looking to open another business in my previous spot, ended up with F45 Hebron, a fitness facility which is a wonderful experience dealing with the clients and getting to know all the members and paying attention to their requests. Last month had an opportunity to buy one more location Kingsridge.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are ups and downs as everything, you deal with the downs looking at the positive it brings in life. It was a challenge getting through school life and getting a job, clearing the loans. In business, you always go with a positive attitude looking on the brighter side of things and deal with any challenges on the way. Life has been good for most part when you do things with a positive mindset and do not go with negative thoughts it keeps you going the right way. My motive in life is do not harm anyone, people working for you are your family, treat them well they treat you back in the same way. I am lucky to have a work-family who likes to be with me in thick and thin.
