Today we’d like to introduce you to Priyanka Narwaria.
Hi Priyanka, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, I am Priyanka, youngest in the family yet dominating, I am where I am because of my family. Inspiration of owning a business came straight from my father. I learnt saving from my mom, my sister is like a lifeguard, my brother taught me being focused and most importantly how to whistle. Last but not least my husband pushed me to go one more step forward whenever I felt tired or doubted myself.
I was born and brought up in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Started career very early when I was pursuing my undergraduate degree. I was tutoring kids, selling insurance, learnt cosmetology then started working as part-time hair and makeup artist. I got certified for “Vaani Certification ” training by All India Radio for Radio Jockey (RJ) worked at RJ for 6 years along with full time. By education, I have a bachelor’s of Science (B.SC) and Master’s of Public Administration (MA). I started my MBA in SCM (Supply Chain Management) but didn’t finish. I learnt a lot about skincare and hair care by attending different workshops by brands Artsitry, Lakme, L’Oréal! Tried those brands and became a beauty and hair consultant. Started making lot of connections and cool money.
We were not raised in a environment that develops healthy self-image, but the scarcity and willingness to change situations for our family forced me and Harshita (my sister) to become strong and support ourselves. Our parents never questioned us for doing anything, they trusted us and supported in everything that we wanted to do.
After tutoring kids, we got excited to open our institute for tutoring kids. We did a survey in the area during my undergrad. Made plans and budgets but it didn’t happen ‘cause we didn’t have any resources other than ambitions. That was not enough!
I worked in institutes as a counselor, manager, Executive assistant to CMD/MD. whether my job profile had or not I loved selling! I got paid a lot of incentives for achieving goals. Companies I worked for were the very successful Miraj Group of Companies (one of biggest businesses in Rajasthan.), Padmavati Pharmaceutical later it became Deltas Pharma, Mumbai. I was always very fortunate to be with the owner all the time since my designation was Executive Assistant to CMD and MD I could see the corporate world from this side of the table. I think I understood a lot about business mindset by absorbing them.
I was a favorite employee for all my bosses but my colleagues never liked me for obvious reasons. One good reason was I am certified auditor for ISO 900I its quality management system that manufacturing farms need to implement.
I met my husband during our school time but got busy with education and work. Later we met again and we got married. My career was at its peak I was making 30k plus (INR) in 2010 plus side incomes of 6-8k when I got married. Right before my marriage, I was finally ready to launch my business as an event management company but I had to drop it the plan. After few years I joined him in the US with no work permits. I was serving people around me for skincare, hair, and makeups. I had my first son got busy with household and motherhood.
We moved to Dallas and I got my work permit. I am an entrepreneur at heart. But mom first, everything is been part-time always, but a little bit every day got me here. As a business owner, I choose my day and I have to be super wise in time. Many times, I got titles of too practical, boring. For the longest time, I questioned myself but not anymore. I feel no one is right or wrong, it’s just different people who make different choices. Along with the journey I meet wonderful people and I absorb everything I can learn from anyone. I respect them for what they have taught me.
Business takes time to get to the phase I am always curious to know what next opportunity is coming. I know my end goal but I am excited to see turns. I have been super blessed with all my goals having been achieved as planned. With my intentions being right, full of confidence, and my willingness to work hard and pay the price I am very sure god is on my side.
Pia Beauty Squad was born because I wanted to start something of my own to support myself first and later make it strong enough to bring other women on board. I myself struggled with hair fall, gray hairs, no length for the longest time. Finally, after a lot of trials, I found results with my own made hair packs and hair oils in my own kitchen. I was able to achieve results for myself first then for my friends and family and their feedback and results motivated me to choose herbal hair care as my business. Every day client’s satisfaction, excitement in their voice after desired results whether it is volume, length, smooth hairs, hair color with natural recourses, getting rid of old dandruff, inching or scalp allergies because of using regular box hair colors everything give me great joy.
All my products are designed by me. They are all herbal-made with natural ingredients with a lot of love in my kitchen. Pure and safe for users and the environment. They are result-oriented for everyday needs of everyone. Nature is full of blessings. Everything we want exists around us and they become available the day we choose to see things with the right vision. I truly believe in the abundance of the universe. There are plenty of natural and herbal resources available to solve any situation or condition but with this 2 min microwave mentality we tend to fall for chemicals and quick solutions which seems solution but eventually, it originates the series of problems.
It’s been almost 2 years. Our revenue is growing and new opportunities are knocking.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Challenges or struggles are the essence of adventure. One of my struggles was being upfront. The society we are part of, expects women to be educated but homely and take men as priority in life. Dilemma is when everyone talks of women empowerment but neither wants to bring nor wants to see them if they achieve in powerful positions. This fact caused job resignations and quit positions and made me a corporate victim at last. My capabilities ended up as being my enemies and there I made a choice of having my own business which can help more women with extra caliber and extraordinary personalities like me. Very early on our father taught us nothing comes free there is a price to be paid. Work involved was never a concern. He also taught me to ask favors from only one- that’s God the superpower because he will bless you as your child else everyone will keep the track of favors done. These teachings by parents made the route not easy but clear to walk.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about pia beauty squad?
PIA Beauty Squad is on mission to make every woman feel PIA (loved), cared, pampered, empowered & served. There are saloons in every corner of the street and the market is full of products but still many women crave to relax, want to take care of themselves, looking for a natural feel after long and tiring days with kids, household, work/business. Our Squad offers products and services at your place (free delivery local) with affordable prices and great quality handmade products. We believe in supporting a healthy environment around us by using & recommending herbal products which encourages manufacturing of more herbal products. They don’t harm the environment during the manufacturing when they are used by consumers and even after washing, they mingle in the environment. We can support the environment by choosing natural products.
We specialize in hair care, herbal chemical-free hair color, and skincare.
Any big plans?
I have big plans backed up by each other. I had a dream to cherish my career after having a child to set an example that having a baby is neither the end of a career, nor a pause it’s just a slow down. I want to give hand to women who are in the same situation where I was and pull them up along my side. I have a dream to have a team of strong and self-dependent women and to keep a foundation for others where women who want to do something for themselves can get a chance to prove themselves in the way I was able to start my business from home with very little investment. More plans are related to training to enhance personality and other skills in women. It is going to take a lot of work and energy and I am ready for it. Luckily, I have strong pillars of my family holding me. In the future PBS will offer services and training.
