Meet Psyche Terry of UI Global Brands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Psyche Terry.

Psyche, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember as a little girl not being very satisfied with my skin complexion, dryness or even the clothes that I wore. I didn’t have much money to respond to my fashion craves so most of my life I’d shop thrift stores and play in home recipes to remedy my skin dryness and untamed hair. I used as many things as I could find in the fridge or pantry like eggs, mayo, oatmeal and butter. I thought that if I could change my outer appearance I’d be more accepted in life and then become happier.

Later in life, I finally grew to love my original self, my personality, my skin, deep rich skin tone and my body’s bumps and curves. But by this time, I had already begun coming up with perfect recipes to keep my skin glowing and my body in healthy shape. I had also met my husband and now business partner and realized that though he has coarse red hair and deep brown freckles, he suffered through some of the same growing pains. Vontoba had also lost both of his biological parents to heart disease when they were in their 30s, and when his doctor told him that his cholesterol was too high, he became dedicated to making his lifestyle healthier.

We created Urban Hydration together so we could put their love of health and nature’s natural remedies into action.

Today, Urban Hydration offers outstanding products derived from fruits, foods, and plants that deliver amazing results at an awesome value.

As it turns out, I and Vontoba met men and women who were seeking the exact same things! Some were health nuts, some were naturalists, and some were just parents, like us, who wanted to know that they were doing right by their own bodies (and their families).

Together, we learned lessons in how we could create products that were sustainable and truly natural, and we got right to make it happen.

Has it been a smooth road?
At Urban Hydration, we once created and opened a 40 man sugar scrub factory in Frisco, TX. We had thousands of customers wanting our all-natural sugar scrubs and the factory we subcontracted to closed down. It left Vontoba and I to use our every bank account and every dollar until we were seeing red negative signs. We learned in 2 months how to create handmade scrubs and we delivered 75,000 units to customers. We didn’t realize that because we were not on our factory floor at all times that that meant we may have sent out damaged or not tightly sealed product. But we did. This happened too many times and all 75,000 units were returned. We had already paid all our vendors and employees and had to downsize our three kids schooling, our two cars from luxury to standard – and really change the way we budgeted and lived. We made it right by one by one selling individual scrubs to women at church and local spas and salons. It took nearly a year but we did it. We learned perseverance, tenacity, and to never give up – even when you are flat broke.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the UI Global Brands story. Tell us more about the business.
Our unique identity is that we are active and innovative: we don’t just think of new ideas in our test kitchen, we actually implement them!

We’re always focused on coming up with new formulas and scents. All of our products are designed to fit your individual needs, and we’re committed every day to finding out what those are. Urban Hydration Naturals has always been about changing the game in ways that benefit you, our conscious and creative friends, with eco-friendly, naturally-inspired food-based ingredients.

Since the beginning, we’ve been using our resources to give back to society in meaningful ways, from donating money to the Blind Center of Nevada to partnering with WATER is LIFE to give away 1 gallon of water for every sale we make. Through this, we’re making sure we provide you with products that are going to help you lead a happier and healthier life while directly improving quality of life for others around the world. We place emphasis on living a natural life both externally and internally. Most of our employees are foodies, like myself, that care about what they put in and on their bodies, and that mindset is translated directly into our products. We care about our customers!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5 – 10 years, I see our industry expanding and growing even more. We think natural and healthy lifestyles will continue to trend up and people will be more and more reading labels to be conscious of what they are putting in and on their bodies.
