Meet Pystol and Thunder Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pystol and Thunder Walker.

Pystol and Thunder, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hello, I am Pystol Walker. I am seven years old. I am in the second grade and I attended one of the largest Texas Charter Schools. I am nonverbal and I am severely autistic. I am surprised that I am alive today because I was regularly abused and neglected while I am at school. I had staphylococcus on my private parts because my teacher’s aid and teachers will not let me go to the bathroom. My hands are disabled and they put on someone else’s pants on me after my dad dropped me off at school. They put the pants on back, so I can’t take them off. They made me sit in poop all day and pee. It made me itch and burn. My teacher’s aid put her fingernails in my arms and it pinched me! I tried to hide from her but I couldn’t. I once went on a field trip to a museum and had to go to the bathroom and I tried to tell them by pulling down my pants. But my teachers put me into some type of restraint. Two teachers held me down. I was so scared I cried. October 2019 my teacher’s aid threw soiled panties at me. It seems like no one could stop my abuse. My mom and I decided to start speaking out about it. So we founded. I Need A Voice!

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but things are looking up. I attend private speech therapy and Occupational therapy, and I’m making great progress. I am also at a new public school where I’m treated with dignity and respect. I’m learning everyday. And to my surprise I am an advocate for other autistic children. I’m an influencer! I Need A Voice was at the Abilities Expo 2019 in Dallas were I got to meet Micahd Fowler of Speechless and Mallory James Mahoney from Disney’s Bunkd! I’m working on a children’s book about Autism and Apraxia. And I will be attending the Apraxia Kids Conference in Plano, TX in July! Every child deserves a voice and I want to help them find theirs.

We’d love to hear more about the organization.
Pystol is president of I Need A Voice a meet and greet group to educate newly diagnosed families that have been affected by Autism and other disabilities. As president of I Need A Voice, we can help with education resources, doctor and therapist referrals, legal referrals and her favorite, Securing The Toy box. Securing the Toy-box teaches parents that Toys can also help with developmental learning. We have a podcast that airs on Facebook and other platforms.

I Need A Voice! Is a political stepping stone. As HR 1662 is pushed through the house and senate, she will be there to educate parents, teachers and communities on the affects of Autism and Apraxia. Pystol’s goal with I Need A Voice is to ensure every child has a voice, despite there disabilities.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about Dallas is the diversity and kind hearted people that call Dallas Home! As more families move to Dallas, we hope to be the shining light for families that have children with disabilities. Dallas is working diligently to give equal access to all of our citizens. It’s a city of inclusion!!! What I like least about Dallas is well it’s Hot in the summer!! But we have great watering holes around the city!!! The parks in Dallas are beautiful.
