Today we’d like to introduce you to Quamecia Neal.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Quamecia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always wondered about the bounds that my creativity could take me. For as long as I can remember, I have been able to take a little of nothing and turn it into something big that not only I wanted, but that other people saw and wanted me to create for them also. Growing up in a single-parent home with very humble beginnings definitely worked for me and my gift. I was able to set the stage for myself while keeping up with others and also discovering that people were willing to pay for whatever high-demand item that I was selling. From homemade jewelry to the newest up-do’s, I kept the products going and they kept money in my pocket. Haha!
That creativity was like a little secret that I knew I could pull out whenever I needed it. There was even a point in time when I took some yellow duck tape, black leggings, and A black long-sleeved shirt and created a whole costume to submit myself into a company costume contest. I used the duck tape to create the cutest yellow shoes that I wore the full day without fail. I wanted that cash prize and I’ve never been one to go out without a good fight. Needless to say, I won!
Creativity has always been apart of who I am, so when life changed and I became a newly single mother, that creativity and financial drive is what pushed me to find my niche.
I stumbled across my gift for baking when my family and I decided to throw my oldest sister a surprise birthday party. I got stuck on cake duty and with no experience, I grabbed my box cakes and some hot pink fondant and threw together an edible Channel bag that I was proud of despite my inexperience. Looking back, I don’t know what I was looking at because it definitely was not what I thought it was. Haha! The rest became history. What started as one cake turned into me dreaming of cakes. That’s what fueled my passion for not only creating but for making it a lifestyle that I could be proud of out of it.
So little by little, I began pushing friends and family to support my dream. The more I could show, the less I had to prove. I had no experience, no money, no job but I had my gift, my drive and my good friend Creativity. So we held each other’s hand pushing through and patiently growing together.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not always a smooth road. What people don’t tell you is how entrepreneurship is a roller coaster. Some days you climb into the bed just looking to enjoy the 15 minutes of sleep that you’ll get and pray that it will hold you together enough to get through the next couple of days. Your business becomes your baby. You have to feed it and give it you’re all. Without it, you neglect it and can lose it. Sometimes it gives back, but sometimes all it does is take.
You daily have to remind yourself of why you’re here and what drives you. Some of my major struggles were in my ability to grow. Everyone doesn’t see your gift as their own. It’s up to you to take what you have and show the world that you deserve your place. You not only can go above and beyond but that you’re worth them watching. I realized through a lot of trial and error and a very good friend that it didn’t matter just how people saw me, but how I saw myself. If I saw myself worth it, I had very little to prove to others. They would see it through my confidence.
QT Sweet Treats – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
QT Sweets Treats is a custom cake business that specializes in custom high-end cakes and treats. We offer a variety of products that not only are the focal point of your event but also taste amazing enough to keep you coming back!
We are most proud of our ability to thrive with little to no experience in culinary arts or in previous business management skills. Despite our humble beginnings, we were able to take a dream and create a product that has gotten us published in North Texas Bridal magazine and working with some local celebrities, as shown on our social media pages.
What sets us apart from others is that we take our time in truly giving each and every one of our clients a pleasantly personalized experience leaving no detail unfinished. We pride ourselves on our high quality of service and our ability to connect to the direct pastry needs of our customers. Everything we serve is homemade with the freshest, quality products made available directly from our community vendors. As they pour into us we pour into you a taste unlike any other.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success means creating something that empowers customers, employees and the community in an equal measure.
What I am looking for is to create a space where others can look into for guidance, reassurance and hope for the success that everyday brings. Even on the worst days, success still exists and is out there looking to be taken hold of and exerted into healthy replenishing soil to grow.
