Meet Quantisha Cain of Cain’s Magical Sweets Bar in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quantisha Cain.

Quantisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 19 years old, ending my freshman year & I became pregnant with my son. I was in between jobs but I knew I hated working for someone else & didn’t enjoy going to school. I was searching for what I wanted to do with my life bc I knew neither of those would be it. I use to dip strawberries sometimes for my high school parties when I was in high school and for family functions just for fun but NEVER thought I would ever be doing it for a living. It was just my favorite snack to eat at the time. Eventually, I just got a job but, I found out I was pregnant AGAIN ten months with a girl. I felt like a bum, in school, no job, still living with my mom with no plan. I made some strawberries for my cousin and I posted them on my Instagram while I was pregnant with my daughter 2012. I had some comments from people asking me do I sell those. So, I discussed it with some friends, my close friend Amber & my mom, co-worker were my first customers. I started Mother’s Day 2012, it was my first time really selling a lot from my mom’s house. I had my daughter in the next two months. I ended up getting approved for my apartment the day before I delivered my daughter. Soon as I had her after Mother’s Day, I went back to it just to make ends meet. When I first started, I used to have to borrow money from my family to fill the orders and pay them back when I was done. Then, it started to grow rapidly. I quit school & started doing it full time, & when I did that, it seemed as if my business tripled. I felt I maxed out in my hometown and I wanted more, so I relocated to Arlington, TX in February 2019. Now, I’m networking here in DFW to get my business out. I’m working on my food truck now, it will be opening early 2020!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was plenty of ups and downs because at first, I honestly didn’t know if I could do it. I’m a shy girl at heart & a giver. So, selling stuff was totally out of the norm for me. Having two children, running a business, & was going to school was a lot. It wasn’t easy at all, I used to work myself sick because I never took breaks. One day, my professor asked me why I was always late, I told him I have a home-based business from my apartment and he asked for pictures. I showed him my Instagram & he said “Why are you here? In this class? You have everything you need right at your fingertips.” The next week was the last week of school anyway so I didn’t return the next semester. I got married, quit school, & moved out of my apartment to a house with my husband in 2016. My business has been constant, non-stop ever since I took the leap of faith to quit something that was no longer serving me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cain’s Magical Sweets Bar – what should we know?
I do dipped strawberries, fresh pineapples, & apples. They can be dipped in white chocolate, milk chocolate, or my homemade caramel. I also do caramel, turtle, & pecan praline cakes. Right now, my most popular authentic item is my fruit nachos. Where fruit (apples, strawberries, fresh pineapple) is the base, homemade cheesecake, any toppings you would like & caramel drizzle. Red Velvet Nacho & Turtle Brownie nacho are my most popular.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I had a great support system. My husband, Tyler Cain received his business degree so once he graduated, he taught me a lot about business & marketing, he’s my business partner now to help build the company here in Dallas. My mom, she’s the one who encouraged me to start the business, because I was shy and scared. My mother-in-law, cousins, & aunties used to babysit for me sometimes when they weren’t working. I had an amazing support system! My hometown, Monroe, LA because without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today, every time I go back home to have a pop-up, I ALWAYS sell out. I have people waiting in line for me before I even get there. The support is real in my hometown. I recently got a business mentor named Shan Moy which has also taught me a lot to take & applying what she teaches me, my business has gone to another level within months.
