Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Dawkins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Queen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started dancing at the age of 12 years old and discovered my love for performing arts. It was my safe place, the one thing I could be my absolute self— in whatever form I decided . As I continued my training in dance, I began to explore modeling after being inspired by the show, America’s Next Top Model. As I watched the show, I practiced my angles, explored new ideas and concepts, and apply it to skills I was already perfecting. I then broaden my talents to choreographing after so many years training with Subroy Studios. At the age of 16, I was dancing on important stages, choreographing pieces for showcases and building my modeling portfolio.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey through performing arts has been anything but smoothed. I was doing countless of auditions, hearing no after no, and being turned down for opportunities I was sure I was prepared for. The biggest struggle throughout this time was to not give up. After hearing so many no’s, I wanted to change my focus on my other talents but my parents and coach pushed me even harder. In addition to that, my other struggle was trusting that God had a plan for me. With me being young it was easy for me to see others advance in their career while I train with no results. It took my parents showing me the importance of trusting God and being patient for my break.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Dallas is so big and it is more opportunity for everyone, even those in the same field, get a piece of the pie. I love how open Dallas is to creative people and how we are able to freely express our talent. The only dislike about Dallas is the traffic. I can spend one hour just sitting in the driving to one destination. Everything is so far apart but that’s part of a growing city.
