Today we’d like to introduce you to Quesha Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Quesha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Some know me as Q. My mom taught me how to braid when I was seven and I would always practice braiding on my own hair. About three years ago, I taught myself how to add braiding hair to braids so I could learn how to do more popular styles. I started off only braiding kids hair for about a year and then I switch over to braiding adult hair (men and women). I started off by braiding friends hair to test the waters, lol. I also would offer free hairstyles to anyone who would let me try different styles in their hair. I promoted myself every day to build more clientele because It became more of a passion for me, plus I love when my clients love how they look! I was working a full-time job that I have been at for five years and doing hair part-time during any hours I had available. Once I built a strong clientele, I decided to go full time because I always knew I didn’t want to work for anyone but myself. I ended up quitting my full-time job and dedicated my time to my business. I am now one year into running my business, it’s definitely not easy but it’s worth it every single day. I have a 6-year-old daughter who admires me and looks up to and I want to show her that she can do anything if she puts her mind to it.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely had its ups and down and not as easy as you would think. When running a business, especially if it’s your only source of income, things can become stressful. Just like any business, I have a slow period and I have a period too when it’s really business. Everything is a learning curve. I’ve learned so much about budgeting and timing it’s crazy lol. Also, the pressure and pain it has on your body from standing long hours on your feet, cramping hands, and back pains. It’s all worth it though.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a hair braider. I braid different styles for men and women to wear. I am looking to expand more with hair care and products in the future.
I am most proud of myself and how hard I’ve worked to be where I am today. I have had so many downfalls in my life from losing my guardians at a young age to not having a house to call home. So, am proud of my growth and what my future holds.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
You have to change to stay with the times lol but yes, within the next 5-10 years, I see my brand expanding. You’ll just have to wait and see.
