Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Hogan.
Quincy, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in a majority-black/brown neighborhood on the Southside of Fort Worth and taken of Dena Hogan and Cleveland Armstead. Dena, a telecom engineering manager and Cleveland, a savvy entrepreneur who owned a nightclub, service station, and a telecommunications company, “Beeper etc.”, that he grew to 28 locations around DFW. During my 6th grade year, my mother relocated my sister and me to Crowley, TX where I attended Crowley High School. My 9th-grade year, lost my father from cancer, and my life completely changed. Finances became a strain for my mother, and we had to make considerable adjustments. My mom was trying to raise me and my sister Chynna Hogan and continue us with our lifestyle the best that she could. When I became a Junior in high school, I took on two jobs. One at Pizza Hut and the other at a retailer Mervyns, to assist my mother financially.
After graduating high school. I attended Tarrant County College, where I received an Associate of Arts Degree. Shortly after receiving my A.A degree, I decided to attend Tyler Junior College, where I received entry into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. Immediately after joining the distinguished men of K A Psi, I became a junior board member for Kappa Alpha Psi Federal Credit Union.
Due to gaining my first real corporate-level job as Financial Analyst for a Real Estate Investment Trust located in Denver, CO. I dropped out of school. I eventually enrolled at Ashford University, where I received a B.A. in Organizational Management. Upon receiving my B.A., at the age of 27, I had the opportunity to join a Real Estate Development company as the VP of Land Acquisition. At the age of 27, I lost my grandmother, Dorothy Hogan, aka “Doll,” she had Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Before her death, she was living at a senior assisted living home, where I went to visit her. Upon visiting her, I realized that while she didn’t recognize me, she felt extremely comfortable with me. At one point, she stated, “I have a picture of my children on that dresser, but I don’t touch other people’s things. That comment immediately made me ask my mother if we could bring my grandmother’s bedroom furniture to her room at the assisted living. After contacting the assisted living upper management, I informed that it would not be allowed. Shortly after, my grandmother passed; however, the idea she gave me did not.
One month after my grandmothers’ death. I gained a position at a senior assisted living organization, in the position, I was titled the Vice President of Land Acquisition and Real Estate Development. Not only did I become a Vice President of an organization at the age of 27, but I was also the youngest and only black executive to hold this position within the history of the organization. In this position, I successfully developed 13 Assisted Living facilities that specialized in Alzheimer’s and dementia in the DFW area. While leading this role, I partnered with Toccara Myers and established a financial firm named Helping Hands Financial services. Helping Hands Financial Services specialized in Tax Preparation, Bookkeeping and credit repair.
After a few years as VP for Real Estate Development firm, I joined Volkswagen of America, located in Herndon, VA to lead partnerships and acquisitions for a government-mandated sole subsidiary, Electrify America. Electrify America was established due to the emissions trouble that Volkswagen of America received from the government. In a government agreement, VW agreed to spend 2 Billion dollars in the push for the adoption of the Electric Vehicle. Once again, the youngest and one of the few blacks in the subsidiary, Electrify America. I took the lead and cultivated partnerships with Walmart, Target and other retailers on a National Scale. This position eventually leads me to San Francisco, where electric vehicles are most popular. While in this role, I took advantage of the benefits and offerings of VW and decided to enroll in graduate studies at Harvard University. I officially became Harvard Alumni in 2019.
In early 2019, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, prompting me to return to Dallas, TX. Upon return to Dallas, Northway Financing was cultivated and located in Richardson, TX, Northway Financing, Financial Solutions’ mission to be a leader in Real Estate Financing Intermediary & Accounting Firm, with operational excellence. With a specialization in Montessori schools, we have successfully created a partnership with a leading Montessori School franchising company, Pinnacle Montessori. Excited about this partnership, we hope to grow and gain other partnerships and clients eventually. With a specialization in early childhood education lending and funding, we offer bookkeeping and payroll services. Being one of the few minority own finance companies in North Texas, I hope to promote early childhood education minority ownership, of course, backed by Northway Finance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. I have had to overcome many obstacles and face adversity every step of the way. Joining middle school as one of the few African Americans, I was teased and picked on. However, I quickly learned to adapt and change the way I spoke. During my career, I have always been the only black male in the corporate or executive level, and the majority time the youngest individual. Every action and decision that I make, I have to remember that I am carrying an entire race on back. I’ve been afforded chances for career advances, and if I fail, most likely, another black male will never be hired in that role.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when I would travel with my father to his multiple telecom locations and observe him being a businessman and entrepreneur. I always hoped that I would be the same when I grew up.
