Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinten Swygert.
Quinten, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began studying fashion at an early age. I grew up in the 90s…the best era ever! I always paid attention to the style, colors, and trends of the 90s era. I watched many artists, celebrities & models at that time and studied them at a young age. Some of the musicians I studied were Diddy, Da Brat, Ma$e, and Missy Elliot.
I got inspiration from movies and tv shows such as Juice, The Fresh Prince of Belair, Martin, House Party, and Boomerang. Honestly, the list can go on and on! I didn’t just stick to the 90s either, I went back in time and admired people’s wardrobes from the 70s and 80s. I noticed that fashion played an important roll in every successful industry.
Growing up, I decided to dress the part. My mom already kept me in the best clothes she could afford and she always made me look presentable. In the 4th grade, when I started to select my own clothing and dress myself, I put my own flavor into my wardrobe. My friend’s started to call me Swag, not only because of the way I dressed but because it’s short for my last name which is Swygert (pronounced Swag•ert). I bought a camera in the 11th grade and always took pictures of my friends at every important and fun occasion, so I knew later I would use the best visuals in whatever business I pursed. I started working retail at the age of 16 and learned as much as can until I figured out how to present and sell things on my own.
I moved to Dallas on my birthday in January of 2017 with one thing on my mind…success. I laid out the blueprint early and knew exactly what I needed to do to get the ball rolling. So I started networking and marketing myself very well on social media and it brought me a substantial amount of love, loyalty, and support. I made sure that I always stayed exactly who I was & never fabricated anything about myself. What you see is what you get with me. I wrote down my goals, prayed and took action. Now here I am in 2019 with my own online store. I’m more than blessed! I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the support of my wonderful family and friends.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One thing I like about life as whole is that it isn’t perfect. From my perspective, the beauty of life lies between the ups and downs. That silver lining in between joy and pain is what makes life so grand. If everything were perfect, I’d like to think it’ll be a boring journey. You find clarity in your darkest times. However, don’t dwell in those dark times. Learn what you have to learn and come back into the light.
Fear, doubt, worry, stress are all things that human beings experience when trying something new. I’ve experienced these things many times. The human body doesn’t adapt to change very well. So when I experience these things, I take time to pray and meditate. I get quiet and listen to my highest self which guides me on my journey. I like to believe it’s a bit of God in every person you meet. So when you have a goal and know where you are going, pay attention to every person that crosses your path. Listen to what they are saying to you. Sometimes God is speaking to you right through them and if you pay attention to the signs and what they say, you’ll know if you’re on the right path. Trust and believe & trouble won’t last always.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Q. SWYG story. Tell us more about the business.
I own a successful online store. Q.SWYG specializes in men’s and women’s accessories. As I expand, shoppers will see more and more fashionable products that are readily available to purchase. When I visualize my brand, I envision a luxury brand. I really love nice things. So when I’m selecting merchandise and designs, I make sure that everything is excellent quality. I want people to feel important when they wear my brand. I want people to feel wealthy and timeless.
I am mostly known for being neat with everything that I do. My family and friends always tell me one of my greatest, if not my greatest quality, is my organizational skills. I like to treat everything, especially my business like I treat my home; tidy and well put together. I don’t like things cluttered, messy, and out of order, so I keep everything organized to give myself peace of mind.
I am proud that my company is a reflection of me. I create and photograph all of my images on my website. I conduct all my photography sessions and models. I’m such a perfectionist, which could be a good or bad quality depending on one’s perspective. I want people to feel alive when they wear my merchandise, so I make sure every image catches the eye of the shopper. Presentation and marketing is everything, & that’s what sets me apart from others. I don’t imitate or copy other people’s work. I create my own and do it MY way. I don’t follow trends I make them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck. However, I do believe that you get back the energy that you give out. That’s why I strive to show love and respect every person I meet during our first interactions. I do believe God favors people who are obedient & those that take the wisdom that’s been given to them from the Most High and apply it to life correctly. So I’d like to believe I’ve had a lot of good “luck” because I took the tools that were gifted to me and applied them in the best possible way. I haven’t been let down yet because I believe. I believe in myself and where I’m going.
